Calling DL Experts - 767-200 vs -300ER

Greetings D-Flyers!
Embarking on a BE transatlantic flight ATL-ZRH this week and the flt schedule says the equip should be a 763ER which is configured for BE.

However, I have been noticing that the flt (66) has been operating with a 767-200..at least according to Delta.com. flight status. Didn't think the 762s were configured for BE and concerned that since I am on a free BE tkt, if they sub a 762...may face a change in class. BE seats are still all confirmed but trying to avoid a surprise at the gate. Don't fly DL much anymore so not as up to date with what they have been doing transatlantic...but thought the 763 was standard with some 764 on the newly announced routes.

Your thoughts greatly appreciated!
Thanks...TB.

It's a glitch.

A 767-200 can't be used for this route since they simply don't have the necessary range (they are rated at 3260 miles) for TATL flights of this distance (4675 miles).

Bulldog King is right. The flight has been operated as a 763 for a while. Here are the flight logs:

I was actually surprised to see this change as well, but after searching through Delta's April timetable and listing flights in an Excel sheet, it has become pretty clear that DL is now (finally!) using different codes for all their 767s. Prior this change, you had the code 763 for 767-300s (domestic), 767-300ERs with standard layout, and 767-300ERs with a different layout (6 of them, the former Gulf Air planes). With these new changes, the difference is more obvious:
763 is now just the non-ER 767-300s.
767 is the code for most of their 767-300ERs.
762 is the code for the ex-Gulf Air jets.

Good work DAL767-400ER!
What would be the code for their 767-200's?

Haven't they gotten rid of all the 767-200's? Or are in the process of doing so? It will be a moot point shortly.

Edit: I've confirmed that N102DA, the Spirit of Delta, was the last 767-200 in the fleet when it was retired on 3/3/06.

When I use the Delta downloadable timetable on my laptop it now shows several TATL routes where the plane type (762) shows a range shorter than the segment distance.

I guess somebody has some updating to do.

Notice also flights with the 757. Flights are listed as either 757 or 752 to distinguish beteen mainline and Song aircraft after May 1.

752= Song Aircraft
757= Mainline Aircraft

This change can be seen in the PDF version of DL's schedules.

Well, DL finally retiring the 767-200 was probably the main reason that finally made this distinction possible. Also, I wouldn't be surprised once DL refits 767-400ERs with BizE that they will use a different code, likely 765, for them as well.

I have seen this in the schedules as well, though distinguishing between 752s and 757s is not that easy to do. In the case of the 763ERs, there are 6 ex-Gulf Air planes, and currently there are 5 daily flights with those in the timetable. Now with the 757-deal, it is not that obvious, as it there are significantly less flights denoted as "752" in the schedule than there are Song 757s. There were roughly 50 of them, yet there are only roughly 75 "752" flights in the schedule, and I doubt that DL was that fast to reconfigure Song planes back to mainline . Though as new schedules come out, it should also be more clearly visible.

Both BRU flights are listed as "767" which means the regular 767-300ERs..
the only "762" (ex-GF and ex-OZ planes) are:
ATL-GIG
ATL-FCO (DL70)
ATL-MAD
ATL-SNN/DUB (DL128/129)
ATL-MAN

There are a total of 7 of these '762's (the Gulf Air config) - 6 ex-Gulf and 1 ex-OZ (originally slated for CO) bird (ship 1521, N394DL). Right now, I believe the schedule makes use of 6 of them at once (ATL-GIG-ATL requires two a day).
