Old Int'l routes.....

Over 2 and a half years ago I made a thread about unused international destinations which DL had rights to but did not fly.

As it was highly popular at the time I thought that I'd ask a new question.....

What int'l routes do people remember that Delta flew, but no longer flies (routes being the byword as some dests are still served but not the way they used to be)???

i.e. JFK-MAN
JFK-ARN
ATL-NCE
DFW-FRA
ATL-IST

etc.

Lets see what you guys come up with??

PDX-XXX (Vancouver, Seoul/Taipei/Bangkok, Japan),
and then of course there are the SLC-Canada routes that ASA may fly, but no longer mainline DL. I suppose there was also a period after the WA deal that DL flew DEN (not DIA) to Canada as well.

And don't forget all of the routes to Canada (e.g. ATL-YVR) that DL briefly flew after the skies were "opened"

HRGM and I have flown a few of these; we flew JFK-MAN a while back, did LAX-NRT just before the end, and did a BOS-LGW-BOS RT right before the end as well.

So, er, anyone got any DL international routes they want dropped? We'll go fly 'em.

I think over half my lifetime Delta miles are on routes that no longer exist.

I flew CVG-ZRH at least 20 times. I had at least 16 trips to Japan, mostly PDX-NRT, but also PDX-Nagoya and LAX-NRT.

One of my favorites: AMS-STR.

I've also flown JFK-ARN, JFK-MAN, JFK-MUC (many times), JFK-CPH, JFK-STR, and some other European ones I don't remember.

SJC-CVG (short-lived).
SJC-DFW (my first Delta flight, in 1990).
SFO-PDX.
SFO-LAX.
OAK-DFW
OAK-SLC (on a real plane)

now that I think about it, and if you add the defunct SR and AY codeshares, about 90% of my Delta flying was on routes that were dropped.

I had forgotten that DL had pulled out of so many cities (30+?). They really tried very hard to become a global airline (and carry on the PanAm route structure). Now it is all gone, replaced by codeshares with AF, OK and AZ. Interesting to note that most of these routes were abandoned in the mid to late 90s ... when the economy was booming and no clouds on the horizon.

I'm pretty sure I flew MIA-LGW on DL in 1993. This must have been an old Eastern route. Probably swapped to AA not long after.

I definitely miss the PDX-Seoul flights. Taking the (new) KA codeshare from ATL may change my mind, though.

Wasn't there also a quite short lived BOS-NRT? This would really make life blissful if this ever came back. Even a KA codeshare would work. Nothing like flying 2-1/2 hours to ATL just to turnaround and haed back up and over.

I once flew to VIE, don't remeber from where. You can't get there on DL anymore!
