Boy Says a Security Order Made Him Sick

By THE NEW YORK TIMES

DENVER, April 5 — A 14-year-old Pennsylvania boy said he became ill on Sunday after security officials at Aspen Airport made him drink water he had collected from a creek for his biology class.

The boy, Elliot Gosko, said he was carrying a bottle onto the plane when he was told to drink some of its contents as a security precaution.

Elliot said the water made him nauseated and might have contained giardia, parasites that can cause life-threatening intestinal illness.

A Federal Aviation Administration official apologized to the boy and his family but said airport officials were only being careful in the aftermath of Sept. 11.

At FLL, the idiots at security made my fiancee pour out a bottle of Evian water that she was drinking from. If the seal on the cap was broken, they wouldn't permit it through the scanners. She offered to drink from the bottle in front of them, but they said no, it was already open. The genius then told her she could keep the empty bottle if she wished. I surprised that she didn't throw it at him. My argument for her defense if she had, would be that she was practicing to throw out the first pitch of the season. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

She should have inserted the bottle into one of the "random security" idiot's... This is insane!!!

BTW, if this kid gets really sick, (ignoring the fact that he should have thrown water away) is there any legal recourse against the FATASSs, not-so-brights and/or the airlines?????

Same theme as always. The not so brights do not have an IQ high enough to rationalize. A kid with creek water is about as much as a security threat as the 80+ year old war hero that was almost forced to give up his medal of honor. That is why the minimum of a high school education should not have been dropped. I do not seeing it ever getting much better unfortunately.

This is exactly why security profiling needs to occur. People are being singled out at random, which is not consistent with any threat. But so long as we have all of the rights organziations screaming about racial profiling and the like this is what we are stuck with, unfortunately.

However, I have carried a bottle of water through security many times and nothing has ever happened and no one has ever inquired about it. I will go ahead and try it tomorrow to see what happens.....

Feds Probe bin Laden Photo on Jet

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

McALLEN, Texas (AP) -- Federal officials are trying to figure out who taped a picture of Osama bin Laden inside an overhead bin on an airliner, delaying a flight and prompting a search of the terminal.

The Transportation Security Administration is investigating Saturday's incident, which stalled the departure of American Airlines Flight 312 to Dallas and resulted in a search of the McAllen-Miller International Airport terminal, spokesman John Clabes said.

Clabes said the plane was preparing for takeoff when the photo was found. Passengers were ordered off the plane and the terminal was closed while officials searched and rescreened passengers.

``They didn't find anything,'' Clabes told The Monitor of McAllen for Thursday's editions.

An airport supervisor told McAllen police that the blue tape used to hang the picture of bin Laden is used by a crew that cleans the plane's carpet.

Most of which aren't screened properly to begin with.

What kind of idiot goes to the trouble of finding a pic of Bin Liner, cutting it out, and meticulously taping it to an overhead bin, I'll never know.

Thank GOODNESS we have the ex-burger-flippers manning the frontlines of our nations defense though... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
