Bonus miles for upgrades with miles

We recently used Skymiles to upgrade M class fares to business elite and first class seats on domestic US flights. After our flights, we received only base miles as if we had flown in economy. I thought that Delta awarded bonus miles for the class of service actually flown regardless of how you may have upgraded to it. Does anyone know the official policy on this? In the past when I've been bumped up to a higher class due to oversold flights, I have received bonus miles for being in first or business although I paid for economy. Thanks for your help!

Nope - class of service bonuses are awarded based on the fare purchased.

The key sentence is just below the chart. Now, if you are operationally upgraded or end up in a different class by some other means, frequently you will get the class of service bonus - you really shouldn't but because your upgrade is booked in a paid class rather than a segment or mileage upgrade class, the system assumes that you are entitled to the bonus.

Surprinsingly, they even never make any mistake on this.

For bump, the ticket issued is paid by somebody. They do not care who is paying.
