upgrading on a CRJ?
Feel free to mock me (silently, please) for posting a naive question. Is there such a thing as "First" on a CRJ? I'm flying SLC-TUS on a CRJ, which I presume is a Skywest flight, and a few clues on the Delta website lead me to believe that my fare may be upgradeable. I don't see how this is possible, but I haven't flown Skywest in years, so any info would be appreciated.

Well, certainly not in the sense that there is a front cabin on the airplane with wider, better positioned seats where the houris will wine and dine you.
Maybe in the sense that Delta can get you to spend extra money? You see, upgrade can mean different things in different circumstances. In this case, it means "bend over farther". Sorry. [edited to add: this is not meant to mock you. Some of us have advocated for a long time that a small front cabin be added to CRJ aircraft. The numbers crunchers at Delta don't think it will make them any more (or even the same amount, I guess) money... too bad] ------------------ "Service" should be a noun, not a verb. If I recall, you can't even get the exit row 'upgrade' on a CRJ. I haven't flown one in a while and definitely not a SkyWest CRJ but Comair did not build in any extra maneuvering space (spelled -leg room-) into their exit rows.
Upgrading on a CRJ: I'll have to add that to my oxymoron list. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Jim |
Thanks, all, for confirming my suspicions. I'll just slink aboard and feel grateful that I'm only 5'5 & it's a short flight.

That's good to hear. I thought it was odd that exit rowss didn't have more space.

The upgrade from a CRJ is ... a boarding pass for a 737 flight.

If you have a refundable ticket, you can upgrade yourself to United/Southwest/America West's 737s... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm dumping DL too.
I tried an ordinary coach fligh on AS and it was excellent. (plenty of legroom in coach and a decent snack on a short flight). That's more than you get in First on DL!! Last Sunday I took a flight on WN. It sure seemed like they give you more legroom than DL does in coach. WN's seat pitch seemed no worse that First on the new DL 757/737's. Originally posted by Spiff: If you have a refundable ticket, you can upgrade yourself to United/Southwest/America West's 737s... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Living in SLC, I get to fly SkyWest CRJ's fairly often. While I haven't measured, I am pretty sure that there is no difference in legroom between the exit rows and any other row on those CRJ's. That's the bad news.
The good news is (again I haven't measured) that there seems to be more legroom on the CRJ's than in DL's 737 coach seats. (Of course there has to be more room - science has not been able to measure a distance smaller than the amount of legroom in Delta coach!) I just know that when I have to sit in coach on a DL 737 my knees touch the seat in front of me no matter what I do. On the SkyWest CRJ there is an inch or two of clearance. (I am 5'10", so this may not help anyone over 6'.) When looking for seats online for a CRJ (at least for SkyWest) you may notice that the first two or four rows are not available - even for PM's. According to SMS, those are held for gate assignment, and there is no way you can select/be assgined to those seats until you arrive at the airport. So while it may look like they are blocking out "the seats up front", they are acutally just saving them for gate assignment. Now why they don't save the rows in the back for gate assignment and let medallion members select the seats in front is beyond me. |
