Air France/Delta Connect time at CDG?

Coming back from Venice (not Vienna, as I first typed), AF from Venice (yes, Venice, not Vienna) to CDG, then Delta to ATL. They just posted a time change to the flights, which reduced the 3 hour connection to about 1hr.10 mins. Both flights appear to be in Terminal 2 at CDG. Is this doable?

do you have flight number or exact arrival / departure time. helps me to figure out your terminal and your best way for connection. Its tight, but doable.

Terminal 2 is a bit misleading at CDG since there are terminals 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, and 2F. In addition, the DL flights are now going into and out of their own "special dedicated satellite" concourse even though it is considered a part of 2E.

From Vienna, I would assume you will arrive into 2A, B, C, D, or E. You will have to take a slow bus out to the DL satellite.

I hate CDG, but I'm stuck going through there again in 3 weeks.

I cannot recall a single flight ex VIE that left on time in the last 2 years, VIE is growing around 15 % yearly since a couple of years and the infrastructure is simply not there.Plus the usual thick fog in winter...

So based on a potential departure delay you are coming close to the MCT of 45 minutes, which is absurd anyway.

It is doable, but do yourself a favour and rebook yourself on an earlier flight, if it is not really inconvenient...

It's even a little bit more complicated than that I'm afraid. Only DL's CDG-JFK and CDG-India (BOM/MAA) flights leave from the remote DL satellite 2E terminal. The CVG and ATL flights leave from the main Terminal 2E which helps a great deal in terms of tight connections. The flight from VIE will most likely arrive Terminal 2D or 2F. In any case, since it is a Schengen flight (VIE-CDG), you will have to go through departure immigration somewhere along the way. Luckily, after security at T2E, you won't have that far to walk before you hit the E70-79 gates for the CDG-ATL DL flight.

Wait, VIE-CDG-ATL would involve doing outbound immigrations @ CDG and another security check - am I right on this? If this is so, 1:10 is NOT enough @ CDG. It is probably the worst of the major airports and if your flight is taken to a remote bay (very likely), you will be praying to make the connections. Also, I echo the sentiment that flights out of VIE are a mess.

- flights from VIE usually arrive in 2D
- any departure from CDG involves going through security
- immigration controls and security checks when departing from 2E are usually quick, as 2E is not used much at this stage

The steps involved in your connection include
- being bussed upon arrival from VIE to 2D if you do not have a jetway (40% of flights in CDG) : 15mn
- walking from 2D to immigration/security checks in 2E : 10-15mn
- immigration and security checks in 2E : 5-10mn

If, as mentioned by ClipperDelta, your flight to ATL boards from the boarding area built alongside the main 2E building, and if your flight from VIE is on time, 1h10mn is quite doable.

Very wrong, having TWICE done CDG-ATL recently, ATL IS going from the remote 2E trailer park at the edge of the airport, NOT from the main building. This means an additional 10 minute walk, followed by security (again) followed by a wait for another bus and then another 15 minute bus trip to the trailer park. The only saving grace is that nothing seems to go on time from the trailer park as everyone is getting delayed going out there. Hell they are evn printing on theboarding passes that it requires an ADDITIONAL 45 minutes to get flights from out there. In short it is a terrible connection time.

DUH!! Venice !! Not Vienna.

Don't know why I typed Vienna (TWICE!!). We will be coming back from Venice!! (I think?!?) LOL

Thanks for the advice. Will have to look at this carefully. We are on award tickets (in business), so I will have to see what we can do about rearranging, if we conclude that we ought to.

Flights, btw, are AF2427 departing VCE on 7:20 A, arrv. CDG 9:10.

Depart CDG Delta 21 at 10:15 a.m. for ATL.

Thanks all.

With that sort of connection time and being Biz-E, you may find an agent waiting at the ramp to give you a quick escort by mini-van (it has happened to me on occasion at CDG).

Hi,

On Jan 1 we had a 1.5 hr connection from Malaga to CDG on AF and the DL from CDG to JFK. We used EVERY SECOND of it.

One piece of advise. Get your onward BP's in Venice all the way thru. In AGP AF said they could not issue the CDG-JFK DL BPs yet from JFK to CDG and CDG to AGP on the outbound we had all BPs in hand before boarding.

SO, what happened when we got to CDG? We did not have onward BP's so we had to walk all the way to the end of the terminal to the DL customer service desk to get the BPs from CDG to JFK. Had to walk (jog) all the way back again and with all the lines/confusion/TSA (or whatever they call it in CDG) we used the entire 1.5 hours.

Good Luck and enjoy Vienna oops I mean Venice LOL....
Cheers

You will definitely get your BP's in VCE and will be checked all the way through to your final destination.

I agree... Depending on the time of day, the lines at security/passport control can be out of control. I was flying on an Air France flight from Berlin and had a 2 hour window. The Berlin-Paris flight was on-time and because there was a large group on our plane also going to the same Air France flight to JFK, we had a special bus to get us to the terminal.. Guess what...all 30 of us missed the flight due to the enormous security lines. They did not hold the flight.

I always now make sure I have more than 2 hours at CDG.

Hmm, these stories are making me nervous.

I have a SFO-CDG flight which lands at 12:35 and a CDG-BCN connection at 2:20 on March 26.

Then a BCN-CDG flight which lands at 9 AM to make the 10:15 connection from CDG to SFO on March 31.

Should I be concerned?

What happens if I don't clear through and make the connection, especially on the return?

If those flights lands at CDG late, am I SOL or does AF have to make other arrangements for me?
