Can someone ofer a good explanation to a neophyte?

I'm SM and would want to travel from ATL to HNL, but it looks like these are domestic only? Aren't they a special form of a D111 or a D311?

I would probably want to use it in place of a D112.

Is it possible to get a cert and use available miles to fill in the difference at ticketing time?

Inquiring minds want to know :-)

Updates:

I rec'd mine today, and some I ordered from my wife's account. Good for a year, then up to a year to take the flight after that. Can be redeposited, etc.

They are domestic, including Alaska and Canada, but not Hawaii.

Thanks NoStressHere. I was pretty sure that Hawaii would not be included, but worth a try.

I did not receive the mailing, but perhaps someone who did can answer these questions -- were there codes included for international certificates? Can we also save the 5K miles on a certificate for international travel?

It's my understanding that the promotion applied only to domestic travel--reducing the mileage requirement for either coach (usually 25,000) and first class (usually 40,000) by 5,000 miles. It would be interesting to know the thinking behind the promotion and why it was intended to be targeted to only a few travelers. Given the recent elimination of the SWUs, DL should compensate by running similar promotions for international travel.

Did anyone try throwing in other codes, just to see what (if anything) came up? You get a confirmation screen before the cert is issued and the miles deducted.

For instance 40K F class is D311, the reduced is D300...

I tried it several times, but no dice. I thought perhaps someone who had actually received the mailing could shed some light on the matter for me.

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Received a D100 and & D300 by Fed Ex, may be du to the fact that I am in Europe (I did not pay anything for the 'overnight' delivery.
Just for your information, the coupon is valid one year, for only US flights, but includes CANADA and ALASKA. That might be interesting.
I was not targeted for this promotion, I just 'self-targeted' me, and it works.
Thanks a lot for those nice advices. Bonne Annee a tous (Happy year to everybody).

Both codes, D100 and D300 still work.

I just tried to get a couple more D300's. It comes up with 35K each, but then when I say get the certs there's an error.

End of the road!
