I have a credit voucher for 500$. I would appreciate if any one can suggest the best strategy or travel plan to gain maximum miles. willing to travel from cvg(or nearby like lex, sdf, day) or lax.

For similar amounts (a little more or less) you can get to London, Sao Paolo or Istanbul. Each would get you roughly 9-10K base miles.

Better yet, for that amount you could do an L to Zurich and get double miles as well!

When I need to fly from ATL to mid OH, I fly into CAK. You change planes in CVG, thus picking up more segments and miles. The flights are also a lot cheaper as Air Tran flys into CAK.
Make sure you check the prices out of CAK
