Skysaver and Skychoice Question

This is my first post and I am hoping someone may be able to shed some light. I have been playing with delta.com's award ticket availability system so that I will be prepared when it is time to book 331 days in advance for a vacation I am planning.

One thing that I am not understanding is the following: When I look for flights from MCI to SJD on June 8, 2006, I see the following Skychoice ticket available (has a connection in SLC).

Delta 4029 * Coach MCI 6:05am
08 Jun 2006 SLC 7:35am
08 Jun 2006 0 SkyChoice

Delta 1701 Coach SLC 10:25am
08 Jun 2006 SJD 1:30pm
08 Jun 2006 0 SkyChoice

But if I choose MCI to SLC on the flight search and then separately, SLC to SJD it shows the same flights that I was being shown when I chose MCI to SJD except that both are listed as Skysaver tickets instead of a Skychoice ticket.

Delta 4029 * Coach MCI 6:05am
08 Jun 2006 SLC 7:35am
08 Jun 2006 0 SkySaver

Delta 1701 Coach SLC 10:25am
08 Jun 2006 SJD 1:30pm
08 Jun 2006 0 SkySaver

My question is if I call Delta and tell them what I found would they let me book a Skysaver ticket instead of a Skychoice ticket for MCI to SJD.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to FT! Good to see another MCI person.

To answer your question, yes they should let you. Just call and tell them what you found. The ReZ Agents can "build" an itinerary if need be. Please let us know how it goes.

For what it's worth, here is another quirk I've frequently seen -- FC is SkySaver (45k) while coach is SkyChoice (50k) on the same exact flights.

Some choice, huh?

CVG KY, on behalf of Canarsie who is sleeping and myself, we wish to welcome you and the other new posters to FT.

This availability of Skysaver F awards for 45k vs. Skychoice 50k Y awards has been in existence for quite some time. IMHO, if someone wants to rationalize redeeming 50k for DL's version of highway robbery (Skychoice aka Slychoice), the Skysaver F award is the only way to go. I for one would never redeem 50k for a Y seat, as I consider it an outrageous amount to demand. If the seat is available, the airline should give it to you at the normal 25k amount.

Thanks so much for the information. I have found this forum to be extremely useful. I won't actually be able to book for about another month (planning a trip in late July 2006), so I will update everybody then. Take care!

Thank GOD I am not alone in feeling this way! What really puts me close to the edge is when I read "advice" articles which say something to the effect of: "assume you will have to spend the higher mileage amount for your award; if you are able to get the lower mileage amount, consider it a lucky break". What a crock. And this when the credit card companies (and indeed the airliens themselves) actively use the 25,000 mile award ticket level in their promotional materials trying to get us to sign up for their cards!

If people are gullible enough to believe everything they're told, it's not the airlines' or credit card companies' fault. This is also the reason companies that promise you'll lose 20 lbs in 2 days by eating nothing but chocolate cake do well.
