I do remember reading that there would be no priority bag service for PM's on flights below 6 hours but I thought if you were in First Class that there was still baggage priority service. Is this not the case ?

tgtg Jul 11, 2005 1:57 pm

FWIW, I flew F TPA-ATL-PDX and the skycap put a priority tag on my bag.

Didn't seem to make much difference, came out in the first 30% of bags or so. But then, it actually made it to my destination with me, which is priority in my book!

no priority

same observation. Just flew on BE FRA-CDG-ATL, somewhere the proirity sticker was torn off and my luggage arrived fast. The other way (nonstop ATL-FRA) with sticker it was among the middle I guess.

But this is not a FRA issue as the same happend to me in ATL.

I guess it helps to tear it of or to tell the agent to put no sticker for BE

NO!

Look people, it is this simple, two years ago DL said that for shart haul domestic there would no longer be Priority tags, IMHO at many stations if you are PM (not F, but PM) they will in fact still throw the sticker into the tag. For solely domestic hops this is hit or miss as to whether it works. Internationally these tags apply and as I stated above I have noticed a quite big improvement in my bags coming out early over the last two years. Its that simple.

First, I was not aware that you were the experienced BE flyer that you describe here, so forgive me if I had to further explain myself. If your point here is to say that I was wrong, then your 150 BE international BE flights did not teach you to listen to what I had to say rather than telling me what actually happened.

TO REPEAT, I WAS ON A 9+ HOUR FLIGHT FROM BARCELONA, SPAIN TO ATLANTA, GA (USA) WITH PRIORITY TAGS ON MY BAGS AND MY BAGS CAME OUT AFTER MANY THAT DID NOT HAVE PRIORITY TAGS.

Do you work for Delta? It sounds like the type of customer service they provide.

hfly Jul 11, 2005 11:39 pm

Do I work for Delta? Watch it ye of little posts, knowledge and flight experience. Maybe they gave you the wrong tags as, again, Delta and Skyteams tags are flourescent yellow and you described yours as green. The point about number of flights is that any schmuck can get unlucky on a flight or two and have their bage lost, delayed, whatever on ANY AIRLINE. It is only when you do it a lot that you get the real persepctive on it, mine being that the last two years O/D and even connecting onto LAX, LAS or wherever my bags have been out in the first 20 bags or so 80-90% of the time (recently IST-JFK bag was about 5th out, JFK-MEX bag was 1st out, MEX-LAX bag was about 20th out, LAX-JFK bag was 3rd out, JFK-IST bag was 5th out - although it has almost always worked in IST)

I have had remarkable luck with the Magic Priority Tags from F/T -- well outstripping any other, including the PM tags I got from Traveller.

Cholula, on the other hand, has not fared as well -- probably because he loads his bags with tons of hot sauce bottles and nobody wants to pick them up.

I'll never forget picking my husband up from a HNL/LAX flight. We waited & waited for his bags - everyone had left the carousel & were on their way home. We went to the DL office - they said keep waiting. We went back to the carousel (which, BTW was still spinning with no bags on it.) Waited another 15 minutes or so. We are now at 30 minutes past all other bags being delivered. Lo & behold, down came his bags, loaded with Priority stickers from that & previous flights. Truly hilarious & I wish others had been there to witness...

In my experience, I have never really noticed any Priority Handling on Priority tagged bags on US Carriers. I have flown FC and BC to Europe and China on United, Northwest, Delta, and Continental and none of them have paid any special attention to my "Priority Bags". I don't think this is an isolated experience with Delta, more of a general thing. Maybe others have had better experience.

Things like this make me less likely to fly Delta in the future. No wonder why they are losing money.

No US carrier that serves Barcelona is making money.

Good luck swimming across.

I have always had excellent luck receiving PRIORITY baggage service with UAL. With DL, I avoid checking my bag at all costs.

hfly Jul 12, 2005 7:42 pm

Kahuna, then itreally shows how little you fly. One day ehn you fly 100+ segments a year you'll find that all US carriers are roughly the same in baggage service and delivery, percentagewise I've had a smany problems with UA, AA, NW, Co as I have with DL, and I believe that every true road warrior that flies multiple carriers would concur.

Also, I just received the following today, "We're excited to inform you that we have now fully automated our priority baggage handling benefit, which is available to Platinum Medallion members on international flights of six hours or longer.

As such, you no longer will receive "Priority" bag tags with your Platinum credentials, Instead, when you check in at the airport for an applicable flight, your bag tags will automatically print out with "Priority" stamped on them.

This new process will help us deliver your bags to you faster and provide you with a consistent baggage-handling experience"

but they work on WN

I gave a chartreuse, florescent green, whatever you want to call it, PM Priority Tag to my SO a couple of years ago and he uses it faithfully on the monthly WN flights from BHM-TPA. His bag always comes out within the first 10-20.

I've posted on this same issue before. For some bizarre reason, DL's Priority tags work MUCH better on Southwest.
Maybe it's because the WN baggage handlers don't see very many priority tags.
My DL priority tags have NEVER worked on my thousands of flight segments on DL but I can practically guarantee my bag will be among the first 10% of the bags off a WN flight.
Go figure....;).

DLmedalliongold Jul 13, 2005 8:03 pm

Strangly I've had my bags tagged priority 3/4 times back when DL flew 159 JFK-SLC. Like other posters have said, it came out maybe in the first 20 bags off of the plane...

About two years ago I flew on USAir to LGW. Upon arriving at LGW, all the priority baggage came out first for those in envoy, before any normal bags came out. (maybe only one or two regulars mixed in. A nice touch...)

Same thing on the way home in CLT when we got our bags to go through customs, and again in LAX at the end of our flight. All the bright yellow tags came first, followed by the rest.
