Delta Shuttle pricing

So... what is the deal with LGA-BOS shuttle pricing?

Have a biz trip coming up in BOS and so with the 5,000 mile Logan bonus I thought I'd check out the shuttle fares (as opposed to taking Amtrak). For flights leaving around 8 or 9am and coming back on the 7:30 or 8:30pm, I'm getting prices of over $400 on several days. Even at bad times (i.e. leave late morning and come back early afternoon -which makes no sense) I get $275.

Seems to me that these fares.... which are as high as JFK-LAX!! .... are just ridiculous. My GF, meanwhile, works for a large co. and they have negotiated the shuttle for just over $200 (same times as I posted come in there for her on her corporate travel site). Are regular fliers being asked to make up for low corporate bulk pricing? Are their prices just nuts? Do they fill the planes at these prices?

As for me, I think I'll pay south of $140 and suck up the extra 2 hours each way on Amtrak. But I'm curious if I'm just out of the loop on pricing and if others think $400 for LGA-BOS RT is not overpricing.

Those sound like walk-up fares. Yes they do fill the planes with those fares. There are significant discounts (50%+) for off-peak periods, like weekends.

As you mentioned, the negotiated fares are also competitive, often cheaper than the train.

They may *sound* like walkup fares but they are all at least 7 day advance purchase in my case. And, of course, I don't do much business on the weekends. I wonder who many of the people filling the planes are at the low corporate rates vs. these exorbitant advance purchase fares. As a self-employed person, I just can't pay those prices for a 1 hr flight.

No big loss. Shuttle doesn't qualify for the promo anyway.
Delta Shuttle® flights are excluded from this offer.

Since the introduction of SimpliFares, I haven't been able to find any discounted Shuttle tickets, no matter how far in advance I try to book. Maybe it's a coincidence. I used to fly DCA-LGA on the Shuttle all the time, but haven't flown it all this year. I've been flying IAD-LGA on United instead at less than half the price of the Shuttle.

It is a shame that they can't get the Acela Express trains running yet because a FC seat on that would be my top choice. Booze & Food and plenty of room to spread out and you get there in about the same amount of time.

Nice catch!! I suppose one could get around that easy enough by flying JFK-BOS but also at a price far from a bargain. Of course now that I know the point bonus is out, the clear loser is Delta in considering this flight. AA is cheaper (fair comparison) and then of course Amtrak wins by a landslide (less fair comparison given travel time). Sometimes I just can't figure the airlines thinking out....
