Down, guys, down...

This is overtons first time to Atlanta, and he stays only two nights. No need to get heated up about Hellen, which is, like, two blocks of Christmas Ornaments and funnel cake/ice cream parlors. :p

Anyway, day one morning: Sleep until you wake up. World of Coca-Cola, Underground, CNN Studio Tour, a walk around Centennial Park if the weather is nice. Then take a short drive to Jimmy Carter Presidential Library for the afternoon, just to see his Nobel Peace Prize is worth the trip, IMHO. Have a romantic dinner at Bacchanalia. (reservation a must)

Day two: Sleep until you wake up. If you like shopping, go to Buckhead. Hang around Phipps Plaza, then Lenox Square. Prime restaurant at Lenox Square has early bird dinner special: succulent 14oz. ribeye, 10oz. NY strip or 8oz. filet mignon steaks for $12.00 if seated before 6:30p.m.

There are also quite a few of clubs and bars in the heart of Buckhead for late night fare, if interested.

Otherwise, The Zoo, Botanical Garden, MLK Memorial, Stone Mountain (30 minute drive- one way), are also good to visit.

BTW, which weekend will you be in ATL? Feel free to PM me if you need futher assistance while in town.

Oh, welcome to Delta's Forum, FT and Atlanta.

Edit to add: Just got back from Vegas yesterday. Sat in coach (gasp) for the first time in a looong time, and it wasn't that bad. Unless you are big and tall. And you have to bring your own food or buy on board. Limpy headset for movies/music is $2.00.

So sorry to hear about the trip in coach, belle3388. I guess there are worse things, but welcome back and hope you still have some $$$ left.

I am here in the Buckhead area on a 3-month gig with ING, and will most definitely check out Prime...thank you for the tip! I LOVE a good steak...

ATL is only a 5 1/2 hour drive from my home, so unfortunately, I have my own car and not a Hertzmobile with NeverLost here, but I think I will be able to find it.

Thank you for the tip!

Hi,

First off thanks for all of the great tips. I think I'll go for the coca-cola world and the CNN tours, plus some shopping and bars in the city. I love steaks too so I'm going to try out the Prime place.

I've found flights using www.opodo.co.uk for 99gbp/180usd for coach and 350gbp/636usd for First. I think I'll save the money for Vegas and travel in coach.

I'll be coming in on the 26th of Nov and I'll be flying out on the 28th to Vegas. I'll be flying back to Amsterdam on the 3rd of Dec. If anyones up for a coffee/beer in the lounge let us know.

Out of interest, what are the lounges like at ATL?

Thanks again, and have a nice day
Steve

If you are in a volunteering mood, Atlanta's roads are rife with street spam. Please take a second and pull those ugly plastic signs that appear at street corners, medians, and on utility poles. Anyone seen Alpharetta lately? Blech.

Some trendy lounges in midtown part of the city. If you want short walks or cab rides--you'll need to stay around the midtown or downtown areas.

You'll be in the Bible Belt in ATL, so the liquor laws may seem out of the middle ages.

I forget because it changed within the past year or two, but I think during the week, bars can stay open until 2:00 or 3:00 am. Saturday night is the about the same.

Unless it has changed, the state wants everybody in bed early on Sunday night so they can be bright eyed and bushy tailed for Monday morning, so the bars close at midnight on Sunday.
