American Airlines Offers Double Elite-Qualifying Miles and Elite Rewards For AAdvantage Members
Reach AAdvantage Elite Status Faster and Earn Additional Rewards

* Press Release
* Source: American Airlines
* On Wednesday September 2, 2009, 11:00 am EDT

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Starting today, American Airlines frequent flyers will be able to enjoy two special promotions geared toward putting them on a priority path to AAdvantage Gold®, AAdvantage Platinum® or AAdvantage Executive Platinum® status, along with the opportunity to select from a list of great extra rewards in recognition of their loyalty.

The Double Elite-Qualifying Miles promotion allows customers to earn twice the elite status qualifying miles when they fly on American Airlines, American Eagle, and AmericanConnection between Sept. 2, and Dec. 15, 2009. That means they'll be able to reach elite status faster than normal, either for the first time or enabling them to re-qualify now for their current status through February 2011. Customers who qualify based on elite-qualifying miles need to accumulate 25,000 elite-qualifying miles for AAdvantage Gold status; 50,000 miles for AAdvantage Platinum; and 100,000 miles for AAdvantage Executive Platinum in a calendar year. For more information regarding qualifying for AAdvantage elite status, visit www.aa.com/elitestatus.

"We greatly value our members' loyalty and want to give them something extra this year for their continued commitment to the AAdvantage program," said Rob Friedman, President - AAdvantage Marketing Programs at American Airlines. "With our special promotion, there's no need for AAdvantage members to wait to experience the benefits of their travel."

Furthermore, the Elite Rewards promotion gives American's most loyal flyers the opportunity to add to the valuable benefits they already receive as an AAdvantage elite status member - and they can get there faster by combining this with American's Double Elite-Qualifying Miles offer. The special rewards vary based on the customer's elite status level as of Dec. 31, 2009. Here are the details:

* AAdvantage Executive Platinum members who earn 125,000 or more elite-qualifying miles or points during 2009 will be eligible to select two of the following rewards: two one-way Systemwide Upgrades; one 1-Year Admirals Club® membership; 25,000 AAdvantage bonus miles; and/or the opportunity to reward a friend with AAdvantage Gold status for one year.
* AAdvantage Platinum members who earn 75,000 - 99,999 elite-qualifying miles or points during 2009 will be eligible to select one of the following rewards: four 500-mile upgrades; two Admirals Club One-Day passes; 15,000 AAdvantage bonus miles; or the opportunity to reward a friend with AAdvantage Gold status for one year.
* AAdvantage Gold members who earn 40,000 - 49,999 elite-qualifying miles or points during 2009 will be eligible to select one of the following rewards: two 500-mile upgrades; one set of luggage tags; one Admirals Club One-Day Pass; or 7,500 AAdvantage bonus miles.

To register and obtain more information regarding these two special offers, visit www.aa.com/elite.

To qualify for the Double Elite-Qualifying Miles promotion, AAdvantage members need to register prior to travel using promotion code DBLEQ. To participate in the Elite Rewards promotion, simply register prior to Dec. 15, using promotion code ELTRW.

This offer does not increase the member's elite-qualifying points, segments or award-eligible mileage balance. Double elite-qualifying miles will be calculated at 100% of the elite-qualifying miles earned for each applicable flight and will be deposited into the account of the traveling AAdvantage member within 6-8 weeks after travel is posted to your account.

Elite Rewards Terms and Conditions:

This offer is open only to AAdvantage members who are AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold members as of December 31, 2009. The member status as of December 31, 2009, and the number of miles/points earned in 2009 will determine which reward options are applicable. A valid email address with AAdvantage eSummary(SM) opt-in must be on file with the AAdvantage program by December 31, 2009, in order to be notified and provided instructions on how to select the reward online. Members who have qualified for this offer will receive an e-mail in January 2010, instructing them how to claim their reward online. The instructional e-mail will also designate a 6 week time frame in which members must make their selection. Requests for a reward after this date will not be accepted. Members should select their reward carefully as no changes are allowed once the reward request has been submitted. There are no additional fees for claiming a reward, however taxes and fees relating to award travel are the responsibility of the member. This offer and the associated rewards are neither transferable nor refundable unless otherwise stated. These rewards have no cash value and may not be bartered or sold. AAdvantage Executive Platinum members may earn/select a maximum of two rewards; AAdvantage Platinum and AAdvantage Gold members may earn/select a maximum of one reward. American Airlines reserves the right to substitute a reward of equal or greater value if any reward is not available for any reason.

Man, I hope DL follows suit. I am guessing they all will if another jumps on board. Which they all do.

I don't get it, the thread title refers to AA double EQMs and the post is about Grand Forks.

It was edited and changed??? The announcement is on the AA forum. So is Delta next. That will make some changes to plans on those wanting to stop at 124,999 MQMs

Since DL already ran the Double EQM promo once this year, I doubt that they'll run it again.

If you think about it, the timing of the DL promo is probably better... earlier in the year where people concerned about keeping status will push to keep it. Whereas this promo is at the end, you are more likely to "know" I need X miles to keep X status.

Uhmm, AA was the one who started the DEQM earlier this year. Shortly after, all airlines, including DL matched. AA striked again, and DL would surely match again.

My thoughts exactly. How many people that have already qualified for status on DL might jump ship to AA seeing that they could earn double qualifying miles and quickly get status there as well before the end of the year.....myself included.

I wonder if you could do a Status Challenge as AA tends to offer, that'd help even more.

Why? What's the difference if they did or didn't? Intead of having 50 people on the upgrade list, now you'll have 100!

So this is on the DL forum for what reason?

Delta isn't mentioned, Delta hasn't matched.... isn't this an AA post?

As for should they or shouldn't they. I vote no. They did one this year... and got a lot of grief because you didn't get the full bonus on cheap fares. Hmm...does that mean that Delta knows more then we do and that they MIGHT get a pick up from this, but only on "loss leader" fares and not on profitable ones?

I hope DL does do it.

I hope but don't expect DL to match AA in full on giving the reward choice of systemwide upgrades AA is giving to super-Executive Platinums who do 125k or more elite qualifying miles.

They sure did...

I always wondered why the Airlines offered these promotions during the summer, when demand is typically heavy. Air travel drops quite a bit in the fall. A promotion such as this, timed correctly should help reduce the drop off somewhat.

I think DL SHOULD offer this promo for M+ fares. I'd take advantage in a hear beat.

New DL Double or Triple QM Promo in the works? AA fires first shot

American airlines has announced a double Elite Status Miles promo from Sep 2 to December 15. Double EQMs on all flights flown during the qualifying period.

Will this be enough to cause other majors, including DL to match during this tough time for airlines?

AA Launches Double EQM Promotion
