This would be a fairly good way to avoid whatever egg & meat option they have and to prevent them from running out of cereal. Of course, this is not guaranteed, but I think its very likely to work.

However, would this simply mean you'd simply get a 'specially' prepared tray of just cheerios? Or would it be the better granola they're offering now? Because if it was just the plain old cereal, I'd rather take my chances by sitting at the front of F and hoping I'm one of the first meal choices (or hoping everyone else wants the hot dish).

In my experience, hot oatmeal has supplanted cold cereal as the "non-egg" breakfast entrée on routes 1,400 miles and longer (e.g., DTW-LAX). Note that cold cereal remains an option on 900-1,399-mile flights, where the hot alternative is typically an egg and meat sandwich.

LAX-DFW E175 (same meals on return)

I opted for the chicken salad not half bad, but ended up giving it to Mrs. 1200GS who ordered the sandwich. (We both had the salad on return flight).

Mrs. 1200GS tried the "turkey sandwich", which was one of the worst in-flight meals we've ever had. Note the "bacon". I gave her my salad and snacked on the fruit, chips and a banana from snack basket. Suppose I can't complain that much; E175 doesn't have much prep room, but really?

This looks like turkey or veggie bacon. It adds a smokey/salty taste to the sandwich. I have had in on Delta's breakfast sandwiches and the turkey sandwich. It actually is good. You should try it the next time or just take if off the sandwich and eat the rest. I guess Delta is trying to reduce waste for the passengers that don't eat pork.

The salad looks good.

Antipasto Misto: Marinated bocconcini, grape tomatoes, coppa,
eggplant caponata, asparagus pea spread and crostini with fennel spice.

Chickpea salad with mesclun mix and tomatoes,
served with warm bread and parmesan dip.

Main Course:
Lamb Chops with fennel spice rub and dried cherry vinaigrette,
roasted brussels sprouts with pancetta ham and creamy polenta with fontina.

Chicken seasoned with fennel and rosemary with verjus sauce, grapes,
chive mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach with lemon zest.

Fusilli with sun-dried tomato sauce, shiitake mushrooms and arugula.

Dessert:
Selection of Old World Cheeses: prima donna, cambozola and robiola with candied pecans. Offered with fresh fruit.

Salted-Caramel Chocolate Gelato

Had the exact same menu JFK-SFO on 12/18. Picked the fusilli. It was pretty decent, but service was a bit hit-and-miss. Will share photos when I can.

I don't recall the name of the dish, or what they called the bacon. My wife and I both tasted the sandwich and it just wasn't prepared well. Soggy bread and overly salty. I'm not a picky eater, and definitely not someone who is overly critical about airplane food, but this particular dish was simply not a winner.

ghastly food and service on ATL-SMF DL2258 last night.

boarding process was chaos, seat map and seat assignments did not match, this set the tone for a long and arduous flight. FAs were clearly frazzled, as they had a hard time with remembering who ordered what and getting the right drinks and food to the right people. "good news" is after dinner they pretty much gave up on service altogether, as i only was offered another drink about an hour before we landed.

options were veg lasagna w/ salad and bread and gelato OR beef short rib with mashed potatoes, carrots, salad, bread, gelato.

my seat mate had the lasagna and her review was not rave.

i made the mistake of going w/ the short rib. it was served slightly over room temperature, the gravy sort of tasted like dog food smells, and the carrots were a complete joke. they were full sized carrots (think what you would feed to a horse) that were hardly cooked at all. this of course made it impossible to cut them with the "knife" that is available in F dinnerware packet. i watched several meals go back to the galley more or less untouched. fortunately, i had a 3 hour layover thanks to earlier IRROPS, and managed to pay a visit to OFS for an excellent sushi dinner, so i wasn't that hungry anyways. i should have just skipped altogether.

DL did not have a good day yesterday when it came to my travel experience, delivering me to my destination over 10 hours later than i had originally scheduled, and with pretty poor onboard and onground service to boot. here's hoping they get it right next trip, which regrettably is only 10 days away.

I did the Dine and Rest option with the mushrooms as my entree and found it to be about the right amount of food for such a late flight. +1 did the regular service and had the meatballs and found them to be too heavy/spicy for a snack.

I had the quiche for breakfast and it was a little salty but otherwise edible.

I had the chicken pot pie; the chicken breast in my dish had been overcooked to the point of jerky, so I didn't finish it. +1 ordered the same and did not have the same issue.

I ate the middle of the pulled pork sandwich (skipping the bread) and it was pretty tasty. +1 had the chicken satay and it was also fine.

I give Delta credit for hot breakfasts on US-Europe flights in Business. I flew ORD-MAD on IB in Business last week and I got yogurt and bread :(

Ewww. Unfortunate because IB has taken strides to improve its J product recently.

Yogurt and a little bread would be enough for me for breakfast as I am not the biggest breakfast eater anyway, but I could see if you are a breakfast eater the Iberia breakfast service being paltry.

bubbashow Dec 28, 2015 6:39 am

This is why it is important to me...generally TATL in D1, I generally sleep as soon as wheels go up. It's nice to get a full breakfast - protein prior to hitting the day. I almost-always do not take the dinner service, but ask them to wake me for breakfast. I would think targeting business travelers, this would be a selling point.

thesaints Dec 28, 2015 7:04 am

Looks like cognac is missing from the list of spirits available at least TATL.
I used to get Courvoisier vsop, but last time I was offered a mini of Courvoisier "C"
