I agree that it's closer to 20-25 minutes if you walk via the pathway through the parking garage.
And the bus is a good option which you can find outside baggage claim. You might wait 10 minutes for the bus or it might randomly show up as soon as you happen to walk outside. |
It's worth remembering that you also have to go through security again.
If you have TSA PreCheck... it is not available in Terminal E. However, Terminals C and E are connected airside, so if you don't mind a longer walk, you can clear security at Terminal C with PreCheck and walk over to Terminal E. |
You also have to factor in the wait at security at the international building (terminal E). It might well turn out to be 56 minutes gate to gate. Like having to go from T4 to T1 at JFK, why can't Delta run an airside bus between their A gates and the E building at BOS?
A few years ago my wife was on a DCA-BOS-FCO itinerary, transferring from Delta to Alitalia (DL codeshare). The scheduled layover at BOS was 35 minutes. I told my wife to get on the phone with Delta and request that she get an earlier flight from DCA to BOS (in those days, DL Connection used to run frequent shuttle flights on this route); a supervisor ended up authorizing the change, which turned out to be warranted as the line at the TSA in E was long, and she would have misconnected if she had gone on the later flight. |
Its not so much the walk (which is real as others mentioned)... its that you have to go through security again and terminal E is notoriously slooooow for the TSA checkpoint. And, if you don't have baggage being transferred you have to collect that and re-check in over at the AF desk.

Why do they even allow such a short MCT?
Isn’t there finally a path between the terminals, so people don’t need to go through Tsa, etc? |
Nowhere near 56 minutes unless you’re planning to crawl like a dog on all fours. Not sure what DL was thinking on that.
That said, it’s definitely a haul, so prepare yourself mentally. I’ve done it in 15 minutes and that was moving my butt pretty quickly. Definitely 25 at a leisurely pace. |
The minimum connection time is actually 1:20 according to ExpertFlyer.
The B-C connector should be finished at the end of the year, and design has not yet started on the A-B connector but it's on Massport's radar. Once that happens, there will be a very long airside walk to connect from A to E; my guess would be about 30 min at a decent pace. |

Connecting A to E behind security could theoretically be done with an airside shuttle bus, but that would have to go a long way around the entire terminal area; I don't see that as very likely. |

There is pre-check in Terminal E now.

Minimum Connection time in Boston
I am looking at booking a flight from Bangor, ME(BGR) to Myrtle Beach, SC(MYR). And when looking at my flight connection I have a possibility of a 32 minute layover at Boston. I was simply wondering would that be enough time to make my connecting flight to Atlanta. And would anyone know the common arrival gates the flight from Bangor would use and what gates that Delta typically used for Atlantis departures. Looking forward to hearing your feedback
