Minimum connection time at AMS
Note: when determining the airline for MCT purposes, what counts is who markets the flight, not who operates it.

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL: 50 minutes

Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL, DL-KL, or DL-DL: 25 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL or KL-DL: 90 minutes

Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-KL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-KL or DL-KL: 60 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Schengen Zone, KL-DL or DL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, DL-DL, DL-KL, or KL-DL: 50 minutes

Non-Schengen Zone to Non-Schengen Zone, KL-KL: anywhere from 40 minutes to 2 hours--it depends on the flight numbers and the dates. I've posted the raw output below to help you figure out which MCT will apply.

Last week schedule change has left my LAX-DTW-AMS-OTP flight with a 65 minute connection at AMS-OTP. FWIW, Sunday flight arriving 12:30pm, departing 1:35pm. Delta/KLM on one ticket, so bags will be checked to OTP, is that correct?

Is the 65 minutes enough time to clear whatever it is I need to clear (and maybe outside for a quick smoke, unless there's indoor smoking lounges) or do I reschedule a later flight to OTP?

It's doable. It'll be tight and you won't be stopping for a smoke even if there is airside lounge. Note coming from US there's no need to clear security before connecting flight.

Yes, your bags will be checked through. 65 minutes should be enough assuming the inbound is on time, but you won't have much time to dawdle. Immigration shouldn't be too bad, but there is a quick connections line if it is. (If immigration is so backed up you can't even get to the maze, look for the toilets just before the immigration checkpoint. The quick connections line is just past it on the right of the main queue.)

On top of immigration, figure 5-20 minutes of walking depending on which gates and your speed.

FCO-AMS-SEA: 1:10 minute connection in AMS

the question you need to be asking isn't "is this doable," it's "what are my options if there is a problem." Is that the last flight out that day? Can you re-route through JFK or ATL if you misconnect? etc.

Agreed. Is this connection in AMS a gate to gate w/o any formalities in between? ( security etc.)

No, arriving from FCO will be in the schengen area. the passenger will have to go through passport control to exit the schengen area, and answer security questions at "gate" D1 (or the club).

If your flight is departing from AMS in 2019 then you can forget about the security questions at 'D1' as well

(The Ministry of Justice and Security issued an instruction to Schiphol that profiling is no longer necessary as of 1 January 2019), thanks to the introduction of CT-scans.

Passport control between schengen and non-schengen is seperate from passengers that originate in AMS and usually takes no longer than 1 to 5 minutes.

The additional screening that Delta does at D1 shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes either. You'll have plenty of time to relax in the KLM Crown lounge after both formalities.

You do not have to pass security. After deplaning, just follow the signs to "D, E, F - etc" gates. Just past the C concourse, you'll pass passport control. After that, directly on your right, you'll see the entrance for the D councourse, with the Delta "D1" desks on the left. Go there and get the sticker for your passport. After that, keep on walking towards E and F gates and follow the sign to "Airline lounge 52" - which is the KLM Crown lounge". These will point you to an elevator that is on your left, halfway between the D and E concourses. After exiting the elevator (other side), go right. As there are still working on the lounge, this is a hallway past the new lounge construction. The entrance is on the end of the hallway. You can also continue downstairs towards the E and F concourses and take the escalator up.

I am assuming you've got access due to Elite+ status or travelling in business, if not, forget about the lounge. If you do not have Skyteam lounge access, but have a Priority Pass, follow the signs to lounge 41. Take the escalator up just outside the entrance to the D concourse. When you're upstairs, just keep walking in the same direction. You'll see an elevator there that takes you up to the third floor where the Aspire lounge is located, which takes Priority Pass.

Your flight will probably depart from a D or E gate. All gates in these concourses are within 5 minutes walking from either lounge. If you're a slow walker, take 10 minutes. All gates at AMS close 15 minutes prior to departure.

Why would a Dutch Ministry be able to order US airlines to no longer need to profile? Or was the order more informational, ie the US has informed us that it'll no longer be necessary.

Schiphol considers the safety level high enough to scrap the profiling part.

With the introduction of the CT scan, the safety level of Schiphol is so high that it is no longer necessary to profile the risk flights to America (HRF). The CT scan can detect all kinds of explosives and by means of the 3-D scan it is not necessary to unpack suitcases. For this reason, the Ministry of Justice and Security has given Schiphol a signal that profiling is no longer necessary as of 1 January 2019.

I do concur with @flyerCO: the extra interviews are a decision by the airline, not by Schiphol. There are no interviews if you fly KLM, or other airlines into the USA. It's just Delta that does this. Not just in AMS, but in DUS and BRU as well, just at a different point (in DUS, they do it prior to entering the checkin/bag drop queue).

In BRU they do it also prior to entering the checkin/bag drop queue. In the past, at AMS and other EU airports you also got those questions while flying other US carriers (Flying AA AMS-PHL; Once at the check-in/baggage drop desk and again to get in the holding area for the gate) . While at other airports you just had check the questions off at the kiosk while checking in for Delta (NRT was one of those iirc).

Nevertheless on January 1 2019 Procheck International ceases to exist @AMS. I'm sure there are still other appropriate measures in place. Like additional security checks at the gate for flights to the US still occuring.

I think confusing what the D1 gate does. It's a requirement by US for US airlines. It's not a Dutch or AMS imposed requirement . I think what goes away is the extra security at gate before flights to US.
