then if you buy PS outright + apply GUC, you need Z inventory for a D1 upgrade (even though it will clear into OK) which you can search for using the Flight Availability search.
(Similarly for domestic RUC usage on non-D1 domestic routes, look for Z inventory, but clears into OL)

- Buy Main/Comfort+, clear into PS if there is at least P1 availability, and you are eligible to be further upgraded into D1 starting at 24 hours (ish) before the flight. This depends on some internal availability, and then, if under gate control, space availability if there are unassigned seats
- Buy PS, clear into D1 if there is at least Z1.

You can't view any of the two letter upgrade buckets (OY, OL, OK, etc), but you can view J C D I Z. If you're trying to use a GUC, you have two options:
- Buy Main/Comfort+, clear into PS if there is at least P1 availability, and you are eligible to be further upgraded into D1 starting at 24 hours (ish) before the flight. This depends on some internal availability, and then, if under gate control, space availability if there are unassigned seats
- Buy PS, clear into D1 if there is at least Z1.
Yes, it's still true -- you cannot directly look up DL upgrade inventory buckets in EF. Although if I'm interpreting the wiki on the new GUC thread correctly: Using Global Upgrades on Delta (GUCs) post 2/1/2022 Changes

I see Z & P inventory, 9 after each letter. I waited too long to purchase and now it's about $800 more than before. I hope they will come down a little as time gets closer.

Specific upgrade inventory such OY etc has not been available in expertflyer for years, since DL blocked providing that information.

You could get straight O/N in past. However I believe this was done via a work around using a partner airlines system. It wasn't always reliable and only provided straight O/N inventory. (So only useful for low level awards)

Yeah something did improve, since it seems that EF is getting real inventory from the system and not having to screen scrape or whatever workaround they were doing before. But its a negative on upgrade inventory.
