Delta-Delta Minimum Connecting Times at LAX
(Note the below times apply only if both flights are DL-marketed; the MCTs may be different for flights marketed by other airlines)

Domestic - Domestic: 40 minutes
Exception:
  • If you're connecting from T2/T3 to TBIT, then the MCT is 1 hour.
Domestic - International: 45 minutes
Exception:
  • If you're connecting from T2/T3 to TBIT, then the MCT is 1 hour, unless you're flying ATL-LAX-PPT or JFK-LAX-PPT, in which case MCT is 45 minutes even if connecting from T2/T3 to TBIT.
International - Domestic: 1 hour 30 minutes
Exception:
  • If you're coming from a Canadian airport with preclearance, it is considered a domestic arrival for MCT purposes and the domestic - domestic connection times above apply.
International - International: 1 hour 30 minutes
Exceptions:
  • If you're coming from a Canadian airport with preclearance, it is considered a domestic arrival for MCT purposes and the domestic - international connection times above apply.
  • If your connection is from TBIT to TBIT, the MCT is 2 hours for an international-international connection.
  • If you're arriving from SYD and not connecting from TBIT to TBIT, the MCT is 1 hour, 50 minutes for an international-international connection. (If you're arriving from SYD and the connection is TBIT to TBIT, the 2 hour MCT in the bullet point above applies.)
  • If you're on one of the following flight routings, and the first flight arrives into TBIT, the MCT is 1 hour, 50 minutes for an international-international connection:
    • CUN-LAX-BNE
    • CUN-LAX-MEL
    • CUN-LAX-SJO
    • CUN-LAX-SYD
    • PVR-LAX-HND
    • HND-LAX-LHR
(These MCTs are accurate as of August 27, 2023.)

What is the official MCT at LAX after the terminal change? My wife is doing ATL-LAX-HNL and the schedule change has her at 36 minutes. I know that's going to be a problem if she has to change terminals. She is NOT a fast mover.

Does anybody know whether the sticky above is still accurate? It's saying International - Domestic requires only 70-mins at LAX, yet when I try to get DL to book us on a 75-mins Int'l - domestic connection they keep saying no, you need 120-mins. Which is correct?

None of the above. MCT for an I-D connnection at LAX is now 1 hour, 25 minutes (with a boatload of exceptions that could increase that; the full Expertflyer result is below). 70 minutes was back when DL was at T5 & T6.

40 minutes, as Hawaii is just a standard domestic connection.

I've given the chart in the wikipost a serious update as some of the MCTs have changed and I tried to make it more readable. Let me know if there are any questions or concerns!

Is there any logic to if MSP>LAX will arrive in T2 or T3? That seems to be my biggest variable. I am booked on DL1358 MSP>LAX arriving at 11:03 AM on 23-Nov (Fri). I am "connecting" to DL89 LAX>PVG which appears to leave TBIT 133/134 at 12:11 PM. The DL documentation says T2>TBIT takes 25 minutes and T3>TBIT takes 45, which is cutting it a bit close. They are separate itineraries although it appears to meet MCT because it's a sellable connection. It just seems sampling MSP>LAX flights that some land T2 and some T3. I am in F on arrival and J on departure, though obviously don't care much about pre-departure amenities on the J leg. In the "old" days I think they could cross-link PNR's, is that something I should call and request?

Cross linking is just a note. It does nothing without agent taking a look. Now if you're checking bags across PNR then it should cause the system to add the flights to the other PNR. This if done correctly will cause system to handle any IRROPS with both in mind. Regardless, DL will protect as long as it meets MCT as if purchased as one ticket and both tickets are 006 stock.

MSP/LAX likely will land T2. However there's no promise. It more depends where the plane is going onto. If back to MSP, then T2 is even more likely. If instead to LAS, or SEA for example, then T3 is likely.

Minimum connection time LAX

There has been a schedule change from a flight booked months ago, so I am now rerouted in February through
Minneapolis and LAX to LIH. The connection time is over 2.5 hours in
MPS and 50 minutes in LAX. That seems REALLY short to me.
This is all Korean Air is offering on Delta. Suggestions?
Thanks.

Minimum Connect Time (MCT) domestic to domestic for Delta at LAX is 40 minutes, as noted by the wiki of the LAX MCT thread where I'm going to move this.

Should be enough. If the MSP flight is late DL will rebook you. This can be on another DL, UA or AA nonstop or a DL/HA flight To HNL with short inter-island HA flight to LIH if no nonstops available.

Thanks, flyerCO. I am used to 90 minute connection times on prior flights. Fingers crossed the winds are with us! Thanks.

Do you have a physical condition or other reason that requires a longer connection time? For most people, 50 minutes is plenty at LAX even if you need to move from T2 to T3 or vice versa (which seems unlikely, I would think both your incoming and outgoing flights would be out of T2).

I have frequent delays on flights and my concern was missing the last non-stop of the day.
