Fundamentals of the card, first paragraph

"To get off to a flying start, you'll earn 15,000 bonus SkyMiles® (5,000 of which are Medallion® Qualification Miles) the first time you make a purchase."

Just go ahead and fly NW and credit it to SkyMiles.

Well, either way, I'm always connecting out of MCI anyway (since I'm usually not headed to ATL, CVG, SLC, DFW, DTW, MEM, MSP).

Thanks, that is good to know as this question of needing "instant" SM/MQM's comes up at regular intervals.

Any values ATL-California for November-December?

I'm finding approx. $650 A fares from ATL-SNA or ATL-LAX for the rest of November. Is anyone finding some MQM values (A fares or otherwise) for ATL? I'm probably limited to N American flights since my MR will need to be over the weekend.

Thanks.

Try Houston through Cincinnatti and Salt Lake City in A. $570 for over 12k MQMs. Doable in one weekend.

Did a similar routing...change DFW for SLC. A bit of a haul...but can be done...well for now since DFW hub is going away. Using CVG...you can have all mainline metal!

Portland, Oregon

I need to get about 11,000 to make Gold by the end of the year - I know Delta has such a limited schedule from Portland but does anyone know of a cheap way?

Why don't you fly to NRT on Northwest and credit the miles to your DL account. They have a promo from Portland running right now:
Save Today on Fall Travel from Portland, OR to Asia.
It seems that you can get to Tokyo for $480 RT plus taxes.

Although cheap, and can earn 1.0 MQM, there is a 6 day minimum stay required.

Thanks! Excellent at $0.051 per MQM (I'm only getting 11,136 MQMs), and I've been looking for an excuse to get to Houston for a day or so. SaveDelta, I can't quite make CVG work on mainline - you can't get from ATL-CVG in time to get the only mainline CVG-IAH at 905 am (or am I missing something?).

Try routing ATL-CVG-SLC-IAH-SLC-CVG-ATL

I did ATL-SLC-DFW-IAH-SLC-ATL recently. Didn't hit DFW on the way back since the flight was cancelled. Lost a few MQM's that way, but since my GM status was going to be based on SIB miles, I didn't lose too much.
