I think that the OP has a different situation than what others have posted about. He is continuing on to a non-Schengen destination after arriving at CDG. IIRC, there are airside shuttles that will keep you in the non-Schengen portion of the airport without passport control. There will be security. AF has a new webpage dealing with CDG "correspondances" (aka connections. Find it HERE.
I would post over at the Flying Blue forum - some very knowledgeable CDG folk over there.

I concur here - to me, if you are truely in and out of 2E since IST is not Schengen, your transfer should be rather seemless.....

Thanks everyone, for your input. I am cautiously optomistic. Well, at least I am not in a panic.
It will be what it will be but I think I have a good chance of making it.
I will also ask for corroberation at the AF pages.

I Made It!
Thought I wouldn't since we had to pull up at landing as another plane had not cleared the runway, but we were a tad early anyway. Our flight to IST was delayed a little, but we would have been ok even if it had not been. We could not get a seat on AF in MSN or DTW, but they took care of it at CDG and it was fine.
Our luggage made it too
Thanks everyone for your help!

Where you all in the S3 area or did you need to transit much?

My wife and I flew on AF from DTW to JNB two weeks ago via CDG. Flight into CDG went to a "bus gate" near terminal 2C. The bus took us to the terminal and they had another bus there that went around the airport to all the various terminals. Kind of an interesting tour. The last terminal was 2E - which was the one we were going to. Got off the bus, went upstairs, went through security (but not passport/immigration control) and walked to our gate. The whole process took about 35 minutes.
On the way back the flight from JNB went into 2E and were were going out of 2E. Got off the plane, went through security, and walked to our gate. Took about 20 minutes.
We were pleased with our connectionis in CDG. Maybe we were just lucky. By the way, the AF lounge in 2E was very nice indeed!

CDG Connection Question ... 17 Year Old Daughter
Hi, CDG Experts:
I'm thinking of routing my daughter (American Citizen) on the following return flight (Business Award ticket)
LHR to CDG (Air France)
1 Hour 36 Minute Layover
CDG to SLC (Delta)
CDG Questions:
1) Does she have to clear security, customs, etc? Or is this just like a typical domestic connection?
2) I think both flights are in 2E. Correct?
3) Anything else I should know?
And (bonus quesiton) ... if her flight is out of LHR at 6:40 am what time should she be there?
Thank you!

Customs : no
Security : yes, with more intense scrutiny than for an intra-SChengen flight, as mandated by US authorities for a flight to the US

Yes. There are two boarding areas, the main 2E boarding pier, and satellite S3. If the flights use different boarding areas, it adds 10mn to the transfer time (walking + ride on the LISA automated shuttle). 1h30 mn is fine, in any case.
I usually try to be there around 5:30, but I can use the business check-in desks.

No, there is no EU outgoing immigration check. The EU, with respect to air travel, is a common customs zone, nothing more. On the other hand, there is a Schengen zone outgoing immigration check, but the UK is not part of the Schengen zone, so when arriving in CDG, she will already be in the international zone, connecting to another international non-Schengen destination.

Also bear in mind that AF also fly LCY-CDG (though most of the LCY flights go to Orly, so I am not sure of the frequency), which can be a lot more convenient if she's staying in Central London.

I have done this many times in reverse, but it has been a while since I've done it in the sequence that you are planning. The LHR flights usually arrive/depart from 2F. The SLC flights usually arrive/depart from 2E. It is sometimes easier/quicker to get the passport stamped and walk between 2F and 2E in the tunnel than it is to deal with the bus that loops around the terminals. Others that have done this more recently may have more updated information.
1 hour 36 minute is doable at CDG, but it is a somewhat tight connection if your daughter is a novice. I would have her review a plan of CDG so she is familiar with where she needs to go. You can access .pdf plans of 2E and 2F here.
I'd also have a back-up plan in place just in case something goes wrong. I believe that there is a late "clean-up" DL flight to ATL that may be a good back-up option.

I don't know French so how long should I allow for a safe connection at CDG?
What's a "safe" amount of time to allow for a connection at CDG airport, traveling with no "French" language skills and an elderly travel companion
(JFK - CDG - VIE on Air France)? Is 2 hours 5 minutes sufficient for me and my luggage????
(I know I've seen this question answered before, but I tried search function to no avail!)

There's no need to know French. Every airline employee or customs official you will encounter at CDG will speak English.

Several years ago my wife and I had to change planes, flying JFK-CDG-VEN. We arrived at terminal 2E (Air France) and departed 2F (Alitalia).
I had studied the maps and thought we wouldn't have too much trouble. Turns out we had to take a bus between the terminals and go through security. Our flight to Venice was delayed, otherwise we would have been running.
The signs are marginal and we could not find anyone that wanted to help; we obviously looked too "American". We don't speak French either.
According to the AF site, JFK will arrive 2E and depart 2D for Vienna. I assume this will require a shuttle.
Two hours should be sufficient but I would request wheelcahir assistance. Call your carrier to have it arranged - it will greatly reduce the stress level. Shortly before landing remind a flight attendant that you had schedued a wheelchair.

2 hours "should" be enough, but changing terminals can be a bit of a trek. "Customs" is a breeze compared to coming into the US. As stated, ask for a wheel chair if your companion can't walk a good distance.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
