Too bad this wasn't a codeshare like it used to be.

Just spoke with great DL agent. He checked his computer and found no trace of this agreement. It prob. hasn't been updated in their system yet. This will be great when it comes through!

Service to Australia is via a Virgin partner Malaysia. You would have to be on Malaysia metal from London to Kuala Lumpur and onward to Sydney.

If the pattern holds we will not earn miles, nor be able to redeem them on, Malaysia Airlines metal.

I haven't seen the Sept newsletter, but A SkyMiles partner is NOT a codeshare partner. For example, you can earn SM on Emirates, but they will not be base miles. It seems to me that the real game is earning base miles that count towards status. Would love to see Emirates and Virgin in SkyTeam, or at least as full codeshare partners.

I can't find any mention of this new alliance on Delta.com or virgin-atlantic.com

Tolarian Wind: what is the source of your press release?

Bonus miles are not base miles, hence my earlier wish that the old codeshare was back. In 1996, I flew DL LAX-LHR on VS flying Upper Class. But if I can use an award on VS, that will still make me a happy camper.

The September newsletter appears to have been removed from delta.com. Perhaps there was some last-minute hitch in the partnership? Do any of the delta folks have any insights they could share?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Virgin join Skyteam, but from what was posted here it sounds like a mileage only agreement is in teh works.

On a bit of a tangent,

What's the proper way to call out GRS references? Would one say, for example, "G-star-853-slash-4-14"?

Elektrik <-- just wants a SkyMiles partner with a reasonable way to AKL

"G display" or "G Splat" were the two most common monikers when I worked at DL many moons ago. There has never been a DL employee that didn't understand "G display" when I told them a page number.
