It's very unlikely that DL will ever give the numbers away, as most other FF-plan managers would love to know these numbers too! I think it's a safe bet that there are at least 20 Million Skymiles members worldwide.. I'm also sure that the Skymiles/AMEX partnership brought in lots of new members via the cards.

I know there are at least 36 Plats.. because when I was GM, I was 37 on the upgrade list from SEA-ATL... which was a VERY BIG DOWNER!! ..

so.. lets say..

Platinumes: 37+
Golds: More than 19
Silvers: at least 50, maybe more!!!! WOW!!
General Members: 7 gabillion give or take a gabillion or two..

I think that pretty much does it for this question...

The numbers I posted once upon a time were pretty accurate at that time.

Dont think we're ever going to know for sure unless a DL insider spills the beans.. but not sure many people in DL have access to that kind of info..

I don't think the numbers are important. I had misplaced my card and requested a new one last month. I just got it yesterday and wheras I had found my other one I checked the numbers and they are both 7 digits, the original has a number of 0008255 and the new one is number 0000131. On the paper it is stuck to it is part of a much larger series of numbers. 514-025-000000131-PMNM-D.So who knows????????????????????

It'd be nice if they'd list maybe... Ranked locations 1-300 on "home airport plats".. i know that's a stretch.. but it'd help chose routes based on greatest chance of upgrade for future flights that you cant check V/X availability.. I'm assuming ATL would be #1 on that one.. or maybe JFK/LAX?

Numbers mean nothing especially when you consider things such as the fact that 40... numbers have nothing to do with anyother numbering system.

How Many Gold/Plat/Diamond Medallion

The question about how many medallion customers there are keeps coming up. I came across this line in a recent "Sky Priority" e-mail [1]:

"Sky Priority eligible customers fly 28 billion miles on Delta every year."

Since Gold/Plat/Diamond customers are eligible for "Priority", this can be used to guestimate the number:

Minimum miles required for Gold: 50,000: which would lead to 560,000 "Priority" customers. Given that a bunch of them are Platinum/Diamond, I would guess the real number is in the 400k range. At least an order of magnitude guess. Delta states that they serve 160 Million customers each year.

Most logical analysis to date and thanks for pointing it out.

Of course, some of the sky priority customers may be one timers in F or C or elites on a partner. That would reduce the medallion count.

Analysis of a Gold as 50k may also be wrong as 10-20 K may be from Amex. That would increase the number of medallions, if each was only flying say 40k.

Assuming Plats were 1/3 of GM and DM 1/3 of PM, that would give a number of 35 DM, 100k PM and about 350k GMs, in line with previous speculations.

How many DL flights are operated each week? If you assume the average DM flies three flights per week, how many DMs per flight would that average? Still pretty exclusive club, is it not?
