All,

A wikipost seemed to be useful for this thread to help FTers find the most current infomation regarding DL's Status Match Challenge.

SKYMILES MEDALLION® STATUS MATCH CHALLENGE

Official Delta Site and Sign-Up

Status Match Period:
90 Days

MQM/MQS Qualifying Flights must be flown on Delta, Delta Connection or Partner Flights:
In order to extend your Medallion status after the 90 days, you'll need to earn a specific number of Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) within the 90 days of enrolling by flying Delta or Delta Connection®, and partner airlines.

Comparable Status:
  • DL Silver Medallion (FO) - AA Gold; UA Premier Silver; AS MVP
  • DL Gold Medallion (GM) - AA Platinum; UA Premier Gold; AS MVP Gold
  • DL Platinum Medallion (PM) - AA Executive Platinum; UA 1K; AS MVP Gold 75K
  • DL Diamond Medallion (DM) - DL does not typically match to DM.
From dl.com: If you have status with another airline not listed above, you may still be eligible for this challenge. Please submit your information below to confirm eligibility.

MQM / MQS Requirement:
  • FO: 6,250 MQMs or 8 MQSs and $750MQD or MQD waiver
  • GM: 12,500 MQMs or 15 MQSs and $1500MQD or MQD waiver
  • PM: 18,750 MQMs or 25 MQSs and $2250MQD or MQD waiver
"MQMs/MQSs/MQDs earned through other sources, including but not limited to SkyMiles Credit Cards, do not count towards the challenge."

Criteria for Participation:
  • Member has not received a status match or complimentary Medallion status in the past three years
  • Is currently a non-Medallion member
  • Must present valid and current elite credential or statement showing elite status from another airline
  • Status being matched must be earned and not complementary.

Other Notes from dl.com:
  • A physical Medallion membership card will not be issued for the 90-day qualification period. You may enjoy Medallion benefits on Delta or Delta Connection by providing your SkyMiles number when making reservations or at check-in. You can also access your Membership Card through the Fly Delta app. During the 90-day period, you will not have access to all reciprocal Medallion benefits with Delta's partner airlines, including access to SkyTeam® lounges.
  • Members who are matched to Platinum Medallion status will not be eligible for Choice Benefits until the flight requirement to maintain Platinum Medallion status is met.
  • Through this offer, you may maintain the same or lower Medallion status level as your matched status. If you are matched to Silver Medallion status, you will not be able to earn Gold Medallion status through this offer, even if you will fly more than 12,500 MQMs or 15 MQSs during the offer period. But if you have been matched to Gold Medallion status and you only fly 6,250 MQMs or 8 MQSs, you will earn Silver Medallion status. Your Medallion status will be returned to non-Medallion status if you are unable to complete the minimum flight requirement before the end of the 90-day period.
  • Medallion status match is only offered for Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion levels.

When to request:
  • Requests from 1/1 - 6/30 will receive status through 1/31 of the following year.
  • Requests from 7/1 - 12/31 will receive status through 1/31 of the second year.

Corporate accounts:
Depending on your company's agreement with Delta, you may have different qualification requirements and/or an alternate method of requesting a status match or challenge. Check your company's intranet or travel manager.

Just as an update... I received my Platinum status match on Saturday, March 8. So it took almost a month to get the status matched.

Follow-Up

Ok, so I'm now answering my own posts

I just spoke with somebody at the SkyMiles desk who told me that because it is just after 3/1 they are working through an avalanche of requests and the current turnaround time is about 4 weeks.

For those of you who have submitted status match requests recently... just be patient.

There is a status match thread here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...ve-thread.html

Most recent reports (from the past 3 months or so) have been of 3-4 week wait times before a response.

Waiting on a status match here as well. Requested on Feb 22, called in today to check on the status since I have a transcon coming up on Friday. They said all my documentation had been received, and my challenge was "processing," and should be completed within about a week.

Interestingly, they said to call back at T-24 if my status hadn't updated and they'd manually throw me on the upgrade list and let me choose preferred seats anyway.

Delta status match

I am considering switching from United to Delta and have few questions about SKYMILES MEDALLION® STATUS MATCH CHALLENGE.

Do I understand correctly, that this is ongoing deal? Right now they only mention travel up to July 30th, 2014. Will it be extended further?

When they say 'flying Delta or Delta Connection' - they do mean that partners are excluded, right? Aeroflot flights do not count?

My travels through the year are 2 trips to HKG - Jan and Oct, FRA in Feb, MOW in Sep. Plus a vacation trip. Last year with a MR it got me to Plat on UA. This year with UA's pricing I had to take my Jan trip to HKG on HX, so I am already missing out on some EQM miles. I also have a SVO trip coming up in June, but no more flying within 90 days. It would make more sense to do a challenge in Sep Oct, with my MOW and HKG trips.

Answers are appreciated, as well as general advise on the matter.

Thank you.

Yes they have an ongoing program for challenges. If you are price sensitive you may want to read up on the new (2015 PY) changes to Skymiles. Mileage earning will be based on the $$ you pay not the miles you fly. There is a sticky on the top of the page.

Looks like it's still about the same - I applied March 3 and got it today, March 25. AC SE100K -> Platinum Medallion. Good timing, flying Delta tomorrow SAN-SLC-SJD.

Email sent on March 7th and received approval today, March 31st. Matched from BA Gold to DL Plat.

I did not follow up and call since I read on here that it was taking 3-4 weeks. I was planning to call this week if I didnt hear a response.

Status Match Response Time?

Hey,

I am UA *G and have upcoming trips on DL (where I have no status) to Australia. So, I figured I should go ahead and go for a gold match since I'll cross the minimum using just the one round trip.

The flight is in 15 days -- do you think DL will have me matched by then? Currently I'm stuck in a middle seat in coach -- hoping a match can improve my seating a bit...

Thanks

-- Dan

I'm in a similar boat...I submitted request March 21 and still waiting for status to be upgraded--have since taken 2 separate R/Ts and about to leave on a 3rd. Customer Service is saying they are running behind, so expect 15-20 business days.

This is not promising! Looks like I'll be stuck in the middle all the way from LAX to SYD .

Does anyone know if DL will credit flights taken after the challenge request was submitted, but before it was actually approved?

My company just flies the cheapest thing possible when flying to Australia --- and this has meant UA for a very long time --- but it would seem that things are changing (the DL ticket was less than half the UA ticket this go round.)

Does anyone know if 500-mile minimum segments count toward the miles needed for the status match?

Update, Delta matched my status today, a full 21 business days after the initial request. Interestingly, they did not E-mail me to indicate the rules for the challenge. Not sure why that was -- only thing I can think of is that I am already ticketed for more than enough miles to complete the challenge (in the time frame) so maybe it's a moot point.

Are you sure this was a status match or challenge? [Note that they're different.]

The detaills in your OP suggest that the miles from your trip to Australia have posted and were enough to make you GM under the normal rules. If this is so, it's better to not have used your "once in a lifetime" status match/challenge privilege.
