Delta IT Issues Result in Manual Boarding Process
My flight from MCO to DTW was originally "slightly" delayed. Upon arriving at the gate, the Captain spent most of his free time at the ticket counter giving updates to passengers that there was an IT issue that resulted in the GA to manually board the passengers. He said this occurred in DTW, and as it was a 753, it took about 90 minutes for the entire process. He apologized a number of times, but his timing was spot on...about 90 minutes to shut the door to board. I haven't seen anything on this...probably overshadowed by the Noreaster and what is going on in PVR, but thought worth mentioning. I did ask the 360 line to back me up on another flight, just in case, and he commented that agents who don't know the system are struggling right now, but lucky for me he has been around a while. Tough day.

Happened to my friend in BOS too, DL 321 today

FLL was packed yesterday morning, with lines out the door for all the check-in counters, including for Sky Priority. I had printed out my own bag tag and the agent could not scan it. They threw it out and reprinted one for the bag. At the gate, they didn't scan my boarding pass and just read off my seat number + last name to another gate agent at the computer. We ended up leaving around 30 minutes after scheduled. This was DL1401 to BOS, so thankfully got out before any snow.

Don't worry, Ed was watching hockey yesterday.

Delta IT is notorious for having issues whenever there is any kind of strain on the system from irops... for example northeast region blizzard

Boarding scanners weren’t working for my flight out of LAX yesterday, they manually looked at our seat numbers and names on boarding passes and cross checked those with the computer.
(Our gate agent wasn’t the best at conveying what was happening, but the agents at the next gate which was boarding at the same time made repeated announcements apologizing for the boarding delays due to their computer system) |
Manual boarding out of PDX on Sunday.

22-Feb IAH - ATL had a big whoopsie. The boarding pass scanner was working intermittently. After the delayed boarding, we had to bring the jet bridge back and open the door again. They boarded one too many persons. Took them 20 minutes to figure out which passenger to kick out. I had to sprint to my flight ATL-ICN due to the lateness.
