Unused e-ticket weirdness

I booked flights for myself and my husband 2 weeks ago for October. Since Delta was significantly higher, I booked through KLM (all Delta metal) after calling Delta. Both my husband and I now have un-used e-tickets in our skymiles wallet for the exact amount of what we paid for the KLM ticket. I called Delta yesterday and the agent couldn't see this unused e-ticket but she saw the flight and all looks good. Has this happened to anyone before? Should I wait until after our trip in October and then try to use it?

Did you provide your SkyMiles number when you booked through KLM?

Yes, my skymiles was provided. I see the flights on my delta account but why would it show up as a credit in my wallet?

I had this happen once, years ago, where through some random glitch, I had a few tickets show up in my account as eCredits for active tickets. I didn't draw the connection and used them on new flights, which then stripped the underlying tickets from the existing reservations they had been linked to. I had to call DL and it took over an hour on the phone for them to unwind it.

The agent had no idea why the ticket value was showing up as a credit in my account, but in short - don't touch it.

Thanks...I guess will see if they are still there after the trip in October. Just seemed so odd since I booked with KLM.

I have the exact same in my account, trip booked with KLM, 074 ticket number, an Unused e-Ticket in my account. The strange thing for me is that the value listed is less than what was paid for the KLM ticket.

Yeah just leave it sit and see if its still there after you complete your trip... then you can try to use it.

Reading this post reminded me that just last week I noticed a $4000+ ecredit in my DL account as I was booking a flight. I tried to use it, but the transaction failed twice and I just used a credit card. After reading this I see that the credit is the exact same amount as a ticket I booked many months ago via Air France for travel next month on DL/KLM on a ATL-AMS-KGL-EBB-AMS-ATL itinerary. Delta is the first airline I fly on this itinerary.

All looks well for the booking on DL, KLM and AF sites. Will leave the ecredit alone and see what happens next month.

Glad to see I'm not alone with this. AJDelvarno please keep us posted after you fly. thanks!

If you are booking non-stop DL metal flights with no connections on KL/AF websites, they will usually be DL fares/codings, not KL/AF, but on an KL/AF a ticket. Although it shouldn't be any cheaper than booking on DL website as inventory availability should be same in both cases with DL coding. The TATL JV partners coordinate fare filings, but inventory availability can vary from flight to flight depending on who is coding flight. Although in many cases they will be the same. At any rate, DL metal flights will show up on DL website once you attach Skymiles number even if KL coded. I doubt the 006 ticket number is actually a "credit" and is just instantiated due to the DL metal on ticket.

The flights that I booked on KLM (completely Delta metal) have a connection each way. I called Delta to make sure that the price differential I was seeing between KLM and Delta was accurate and unfortunately it was. I do see the flight on both my Delta account and on KLM. The ticket # associated with the unused e-ticked (Delta's terminology) starts with an 074. I'm not planning on being able to use that ticket but was really more concerned that there would be a problem with the flight. My flight isn't until Oct so won't be able to update this until then.

Appreciate all the input!

Sounds like another DL IT glitch to watch out for!

I had a similar thing happen back in the fall for a trip involving DL marketed / KE operated segments. While the amounts never showed as an “unused e-credit” they did appear as a “closed e-credit” that eventually dropped off after travel was completed.

Quick follow-up on my Post #8. The unspecified $4000+ e-credit remained in my account right up to the date of my first flight. Delta and KLM flights (purchased on an AF ticket) went off without a hitch. E-credit has disappeared. That is all.
