Delta/Hawaiian Codeshare - Modify HA segment only
Hi all,
A bit of a weird question, let me know if I should post in the HA forum instead! So I have a flight in March from SEA-HNL-LIH, all ticketed on one itinerary via DL, HNL-LIH operated by HA. As expected, there are many different options for the short island hop from HNL-LIH, but I noticed that the later departures had cheaper first class fares (even though the SEA-HNL segment is still the exact same flight) so I had modified my flight to one of those. Currently, I'm booked with a 4 hour layover in HNL, but first class the whole way through, so pretty happy about that! However, I would love to reduce my 4 hour layover (even though HNL is a great place for one)! Now my question is - is there a way to modify just my HNL-LIH segment without touching my SEA-HNL? If I modify from Delta's website, it tries to modify the entire trip at once, and it's significantly more expensive to get on an earlier HNL-LIH flight (which is super weird to me, given that the only thing changing is the HNL-LIH segment, but that's flight pricing algorithms for you!). Has anyone tried getting the HA confirmation # and then try modifying just that leg via customer support or anything? Alternatively, I'm wondering if I could potentially same-day change as the flight gets closer and get on an earlier HA flight. I do have a first class seat for that segment, but would certainly not mind going downgrading to economy to get to LIH a bit earlier. I'm thinking I could also just talk to an HA agent upon arrival at HNL, but I'd be a bit worried about risking my bags not making it to an earlier flight. I hope my question made sense! Thanks for any advice or data points :) |
The flights are booked on a single fare, so you can't just change one segment without a refare. SDC is only offered on DL metal and coded flights.

This past weekend I flew DTW-HNL-OGG. The flight to HNL landed an hour early.
I walked up to a HA gate agent with a smile on my face and asked if I could get on an earlier OGG flight. Gate agent asked if I had any checked bags… I said no… she printed me a new boarding pass for an OGG flight boarding 15 mins later. Saved me two and a half hours at HNL. This was with a main cabin fare booked on DL. Being in F could only help I would imagine if you have no checked bags and especially if you agree to take any seat (as I did), including in Y next to the engine on the HA 717s. |
Also the DL - HA relationship has nowhere to go but down, given HA's new masters....

No chance for a reconciliation between the former partners? I.e., Alaska?
