Companion ticket?

if I have multiple companion passes (a business card and personal card) can I use both of them together on a single flight? So I could have my wife and sons ticket for free?

You cannot use two Companion Certificates to "buy one, get two free".

You can use both of them on the same flight to purchase four tickets for the price of two.

Your kid doesn’t have to turn 2… you can buy them a seat regardless.

There are also reports of people using the companion cert for an empty seat (you have to call in for that one).

Yes, although you can buy a ticket for a kid at any age. Also, be sure to put an adult on each reservation so the kids don't end up as unaccompanied minors and cause some inconveniences like being unable to check-in online.

Not until the second year.

I was surprised to get the companion certificate after about a month since I upgraded my Gold card to Platinum. I also thought it would not be issued to me the first year.

The clock for the companion cert started when you got the Gold as it was an upgrade.

The companion certificate is issued for the card held immediately proceeding the assment of the renewal annual fee. It's possible, for example, to hold the platinum card for 11 months, upgrade at the last second to reserve and be rewarded with the reserve certificate. (not that I would recommend this unless you've previously held the reserve card for SUB purposes.
