Random extra letter in passenger name
I’m not sure what happened, other than DL premium IT in action, but booking a flight for one of my kids today DL added a random letter to my sons name (first middle X last). The ticket was booked using an ecredit and I could not edit the name since it was non-transferable (I didn’t notice the extra letter until after booking).
His SM number is attached to the reservation and the trip shows properly on his account page, it’s just that his name shows that extra letter. I’ve never seen this before but is this something to call in about to correct, or will it not cause issues? Don’t really want to call during meltdown time but will if it’s a risk for issues at flight time. edit: this is for an international trip, not domestic, if that matters. |

I've found extraneous glitches and extra letters, more so recently.
Probably the worst was a couple of months ago when I didn't get pre-check on my boarding passes. Then TSA flagged an issue. Seems somehow my DL profile was corrupted (they suspect it happened when a counter agent did a passport scan) and I suddenly became 102 years old! It took about ten minutes to correct the profile and reissue correct boarding passes. |
This happened to me too. It caused issues at checkin as it couldn’t map me to my SkyMiles #, and thus they had to manually waive my bags vs being automatic from our credit card. After I flew, I called in, and they applied the missing SkyMiles pretty quickly.
Turns out it also happened for a few other future bookings, but reservations was able to fix when I called in. |
I would give it a couple more days but it's probably worth calling and getting it corrected. Agents can do it when it's clear you aren't trying to change names to transfer the ticket. I've opted to this when extra middle initials kept getting added. I've posted about this before on FT but my middle initial is K. When I booked used an ecredit, a second K was added so my name was displayed as: <FIRST NAME> KK <LAST NAME>
At first not a big deal but then I made another change and the system added another K in there. For obvious reasons I didn't want my middle name/initial displaying as "KKK" so I called DL and it was an easy fix for the agent. Hopefully you can call and have a similar experience. |
