What are we paying for? DL50 SLC-LHR CX 2 days in a row

So I've been trying to get to Mumbai for two days now. DL50 cancelled on Friday, and I thought the single best thing to do was push the trip out a day because they would NEVER cancel the exact same flight (which is the only LHR flight of the day from SLC) two days in a row. Right?

Wrong.

This has blown up a carefully planned trip that used GUCs and on Virgin metal LHR-BOM. And in my chat tonight with the diamond line, they state almost everything out of SLC is sold out to places I can get across the pond from. They aren't wrong. On a Saturday in late September, LAX is sold out for 2 days, SEA for a day....so I'm stuck here. And they won't even send me back to Reno where I originated.

I'm trying to figure out what the point of my Diamond status is. This doesn't feel very premium.

Why have the flights been cancelled? Have they offered alternatives on other airlines? DL appears to have a seat on SLC-KLM-BOM in J on Sunday.

Can’t speak for yesterday, but tonight’s cancellation was a mechanical.

Unfortunately getting into Mumbai two days late screws up everything for me. I finally found a redcoat who agreed to get me to BLR instead so I can catch up to my original planned schedule (just missing a city). Note prior to this 3 people (1 gate agent 1 phone 1 skyclub) had tried to help but couldn’t actually figure out how to do it- I expect because my ticket had been reissued with GUCs they couldn’t figure out how to void that and manually do an even exchange because they were insisting inventory not available.

So now I’m going to Seattle, then will fly SEA-AMS-BLR tomorrow. Of course, in the back.

There IS front cabin inventory from LAX, but no way to get to LAX from SLC in time to make it tomorrow.

I still don’t understand how every seat out of SLC is filled and they can’t keep the wide bodies moving internationally in late September. Early august, sure, but what the heck are all these people doing on a Saturday in September?

They were also 5 hours late on MSP to HND today, having run out of 339s, it seems. I know MSP to HND is a known issue.

Here is the non premium kicker.

There is a PS seat available today SEA-AMS. Not the GUC inventory bucket naturally, but it’s available for sale and shows 1 available on the upgrade list. There is business available (C, D, I buckets) AMS-BLR.

I called twice, both agents on the Diamond line were courteous and tried hard, but stated revenue management would not make either of those available to me.

So I asked “I am now going to be more than 24 hours late, arriving in a different city, you have the seat available, and you won’t even let me have the class of service I was booked in previously, despite the fact the cancellation is Delta’s issue?”

“Yes sir, I’m afraid you’re right”.

I don’t mean to DYKWIA, but I have been a Diamond since year 1 on flying. It seems status isn’t helping. So why bother to work twice as hard next year to get it?

I distinctly recall on several posts that several of you made the claim that you suck at the teat of FF programs because of gaining status. Because having status results in being taken care of when there are irrops. This doesn't seem to be the case to me.

It used to be on the old Delta (pre-COVID). Now, not so much.

The arrogance from Deltas management is indeed starting to percolate down to the front-line employees. Make your decisions accordingly.

DL has been this way with IRROPS for a while now, long before whatever happened last week.
