Delta is trying the new aircraft, Airbus A319 SuperUltraXtraLongRange variant. This is important next year when everyone leaves Delta because of the crazy SkyMiles changes and they will have lower demands on these routes.

If the price is much cheaper than competitors, why not? plenty of customers will happily grab it. Not everybody cares about mileage, elite status or lounge.

So the OP should have shown a A350 with rows of empty seats, just to show Delta lost all the loyal customers and are losing money by flying an empty plane. A319 just doesn't make sense to be a joke.

The reality is mid-air refueling. Delta will buy up the old KC-135 tankers from the USAF and fill them from their refinery or enter into a contract with Metrea to provide air-to-air refueling.

Until they realize this particular aircraft would run out of fuel and crash into the ocean. They may care about that.

Is DL expecting to lose so many passengers in the wake of the recent Skymiles Program enhancements that they think they'll only be able to fill narrowbodies now on TPAC flights?

If DL converted 763s into KC-46s, though, I'm sure there'd be complaints from the Jet-A in the front tanks.

The USAF is currently evaluating the "Bridge Tanker" or "KC-Y" which is supposed to be an intermediate solution to a potential KC-Z stealth tanker. One proposed solution for KC-Y is to just buy more KC-46As. Another proposed solution is hold a competition between the KC-46 and A330 MRTT. But we now have a new solution: have DL and the US Air Force work together to develop the KC-46D (see what I did there? ) which is a 767-300 based tanker and the USAF and DL could split development costs.
