Is Delta A Premium Airline?
Article posted on OMAAT today...
https://onemileatatime.com/insights/...emium-airline/
I have to say I agree with pretty much everything Ben says in the article. It's not that Delta hasn't really gotten much worse (although they haven't been better since Covid) but the others are finally starting to catch up.

I just laughed at this title. Poor Delta is a punching bag for all the travel bloggers post 9/14.

I think the 737-800 in the photo showing first class just went in for a refit.
A lot of comparisons in the article focused on international premium cabins (and their trimmings). IMO DL is definitely the weakest of the US3 for J and PE, but DLs economy (Dom and Intl), and domestic first are still the best of the US3.

From my perspective - the aspect that carved out Delta as a more preferable carrier (the blonde leading the blind) to book was because they were more reliable - best at getting you from point A to point B with a reasonable time range of what was expected with minimal cancellation. I will argue that this aspect was better under Anderson and has been diminished under Bastian.

Delta is a better than average domestic airline. NO WAY are they even sniffing anything near being premium on INTL.
If they want to be more premium internationally, then perhaps they could model their cabins after Air France or the new KLM retrofits.
If they truly want to compete, then they could model their overall experience to be more like Qatar, Oman Air, ANA, Swiss, etc
They are delusional if they really believe they are premium anything outside of a domestic experience.

They're not premium, they're just the best of the three majors by some margin.

Don't forget, the travel bloggers have been earning commissions from pumping the DL AmEx and vanilla AmEx cards (one of the reasons the SkyClubs have become so over-crowded). Although the bloggers will now focus their efforts on other cards, the changes to club access will impact their income from pushing AmEx cards...

Mile runs are now history, as now its spend runs on Air France LaPremire. I will go out of my way to book AF connecting via JFK and transit from terminal 4 to terminal 1 to avoid the Sky Club rift raft in the B concourse and the outstanding D1 food, drink, warm and caring hospitality provided by Deltas New York based FAs. BTW the premium experience D1 cabin still doesnt have a wine list selection menu, as its a choice of white, rose or red. After dinner drinks have not returned such as port or cognac post-pandemic in D1. Maybe that level of premium service will be a 2015 DM Choice Benefit?

Can you imagine if the ME3 were allowed to fly US transcontinental routes; most affluent fliers will chose the ME3 in a heart beat.

I really wish we would stop giving these useless bloggers a wider audience than they are already under the perception they have.

In what ways? All of the US airlines are just pretty average at best. At the end of the day, Delta is probably still at the top in among US airlines when you take into account all relevant factors.
They would be flying private still.
