Proposal: Non credit card benefit approach to reducing Sky Club overcrowding
The best approach to reducing Sky Club overcrowding, and without impairing credit card benefits, is to impose a new flight time related entry limit of let's say 75 minutes prior to flight.

1 hour and 15 minutes would make every long connecting traveler go insane.
The issue with these restrictions (I don't mind the 3 hour rule) is that for initial flight, we are told to arrive at 3 hours prior to an international flight. You board about 45-55 min or so before an international flight is scheduled to leave. Even domestic, you would basically tap your feet in the lounge and then go to boarding, especially if you need the overhead space.
The best customer solution IMO, and that Delta is doing, is to increase the lounge footprint. Detroit is a good example, as well as LAX. Even a smaller side lounge that can handle 30-40 people (i.e. Detroit's A43) can take enough load off the others to allow for better passenger flow throughout the day.
Anyways, lock this thread up boys, lets go home.

Of course, the 75 minute pre-flight limit would only apply to lounges where overcrowding is the norm.

"speculation" in the subject line doesn't help here, as it's as much speculation as the threads where people announce random routes they think Delta should fly

As I sit typing in the very sparsely occupied PHX SkyClub, I think you may be on to something here.

The lounge access limitations have nothing to do with crowding.
It is about revenue for the airlines: they analyze the behavioral patterns, identify and close loopholes that allowed passengers to benefit from lounge access. The teams responsible for the restrictions get excellent performance review if the revenue is increased at the end.
This means, if you find a loophole do not brag about it online, unless you want it to disappear due massive exploitation
