All the new sky clubs.. Well done Delta
Was in the new MSP skyclub today and was very impressed (other then how far it is from most of the gates in at MSP) and that got me thinking Delta probably has the top 6 or 7 lounges of all the US airlines going right now. I have not been to Kansas City or the new Boston one (if that is even open) but have been in the following which I dont think AA or UA or AS has anything that makes it in front of them in my book.
MSP
JFK
LAX
SLC
LGA
ORD
SEA
I am of course excluding Flagship and Polaris (although a case can be made vs some of them)..
Does Delta own the top 7? Maybe more?

A lot is in flux right now though. Will the F&B offerings at JFK and LAX be reduced once the D1 lounges are open?
And who knows whats in store for access in the future.

Ive never, in my 35+ years on this Earth, experienced any "enhancement" by DL that doesnt then come with some sort of negative reduction. When Delta gives they always take away. The rumor mill says this one will be access limitations for many, but lets see. Lets not forget the many "enhancements" over the years guised as something else-mileage, upgrades, etc.

Its a lot easier and cheaper to give a premium food and beverage experience on the ground than it is in the air. Their strategy is to draw people into their lounges as a pre/post flight experience through easily attained credit cards. What people always miss with the credit card lounge access though, is that you need to fly Delta to use the benefit. That means the more sky clubs they build, the more people will be enticed to fly Delta. This is true in both competitive markets and when Delta may not otherwise be the most convenient.

The BOS terminal E infrastructure is not ready to open... the building itself still has construction going on both inside and on the access roadways/area outside.
Supposed to be a large new club whenever it does open... guessing maybe in Sept especially considering that one of the major tunnels to downtown is closed through end of this month and traffic is a nightmare - backed up into the airport regularly so last thing they need is a major traffic pattern change and having traffic backed up to the terminal for the grand opening.
Note the terminal expansion only has 4 additional gates currently so will be very interesting to see how the whole security and check in area will get relocated. Plus, this will add even more time necessary to transfer between E<->A

So BOS should be top of the line too based on trends, so maybe Delta has the best 8 lounges in the country? I haven't been to all AA/UA (although I have been to most of them from major markets), and have been to all of Alaska' outposts... I don't think its close..
Tip of the cap from me.
As for upcoming D1 lounges, the bar has been set pretty high with these new openings so expectation is pretty high there on what they will turn out like.. .... I have been in the Chelsea/Soho lounges a couple of times and they are both nice in different ways.. .. The standard there is a little unfair since it's an AA/BA combo, but who knows.
Right now the lounge world in the US is Delta's world... Good for us Delta flyers.

I was in the MSP Delta Skyclub last Friday and was very impressed. Very friendly staff, excellent food and comfortable ambience.
I was in the ATL Skyclub Wednesday morning and was not impressed. Paper plates and plastic utensils. I have never seen that before in any airline lounge.Very disappointing.

As long as the food is edible and enjoyable, paper plates and plastic utensils do not trouble me. What troubles me is when the food is lousy and the soda machine doesn't work.
