How am I diamond when I don't fly?

Hello. Can someone answer this for me. I do not fly Delta anymore, just because I moved and it's more convenient to fly American. But I have a personal and business Delta Amex credit card. I spend maybe $50,000 on the personal and well over $250,000 on the business. I have been Diamond for several years now. Why? Is it the spending? A glitch in the system? Regardless, if Delta.com says Diamond then is that necessarily the case and even if I don't understand how I am Diamond I will receive the benefits? I am confused. Hoping someone here can clear it up.

Thanks.

You didnt mention the type of credit cards you have, but youre probably getting bonus MQMs at certain thresholds, and youre definitely hitting the $250k Diamond MQD waiver. Therefore, youre Diamond without even getting on a plane.

The Delta branded credit cards (1 personal, 1 business).

You should use different credit cards.

Between the MQM earned from spend on the cards and the MQD waiver you're DM.

250K spend on AMEX DL cards allows DM as long as earn 125k MQM. Since you have 2 cards you earn that MQ just from the spend.

There are multiple different kinds of Delta-branded credit cards.
It seems odd to put that much money on Delta cards (and pay the annual fee) if you don't fly Delta and have no use for Delta status...

Diamond status is completely useless for someone who doesnt ever fly DL/ST except for getting through on the phones faster. You benefited from rollover during covid. Dont forget your 4 free choice benefits. There are much better credit cards for your situation. 2% back is $6,000 for you.

Yes. regular Amex Plat will do just fine - and then you can transfer the points to something more useful than skypesos

Two cards by themselves won't give 125k MQM (you can get 60k at most from each of biz and personal Reserve), I suspect if the business card is a Reserve and the personal card is Platinum, that would be enough with a few years of rollover to be Diamond.

Redeeming the miles on DL for an occasional flight on DL metal could also give surprise elite credit for one who thought only revenue tickets got credit.

The amount of wasted spend on those cards hurts my soul.

I suppose a better question might be “Why am I Diamond when I don’t fly?”

Yeah, you could be getting 2% cash back, so it may be time to re-calibrate something.

Depending on the actual spend on each card, you can get the 2x60k as noted here. Given the spend, the OP is getting the waiver and thus PM status. That would leave a rollover of 45k. With the same spend the following year and another 120k MQMs, youd be over the DM threshold. So, it would be PM and DM every other year.

With the COVID recent rollovers without depleting the MQMs, OP could have a stash of MQMs and thus be able to get DM for some consecutive years.
