Is this normal D1 service? SFO-NYC
I am having difficulties recalling whether the current flight I am on from SFO-JFK represents the current level of service on Delta One. I flew D1 during the pandemic and after between NYC and LAX/SEA and I am not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me but this flight feels like a reduced service overall. The current flight experience includes the following:
-No menus.
-Choice of two entrees only.
-One red and one white wine.
I had to drag information out of the FA to decide what to eat. He described my options as beef or ricotta. He had no idea what the wines were but presumably the usual FC chardonnay and cab if there were only two.
Does SFO-JFK get a D1 lite service maybe? I just dont remember it being this bad on previous flights.

In my experience, I haven't seen menu's on a domestic D1 flight since pre-covid. Options are verbally spoken nowadays. There are supposed to be 3 options (5 if pre-ordering); although one choice may have ran out depending on where you are sitting in the cabin. Which would make sense, to explain why you were only offered two choices.
Can't speak on the wine, but one white & red sounds about right. Service has been pared down compared to what it use to be in the past.

Sounds on par with my experience on JFK - SFO flights in the current era.
Was it a last minute upgrade? If not you shouldve had an opportunity to pre-order your meal and see the menu options.
Sadly the hard product and cleanliness is the usual for Delta nowadays

The two food choices is odd. I had a crazy hectic week and forgot to pre order like I usually do but I was the 2nd person to be asked for their food order so it seemed a little baffling that they could have run out of something. I didnt see anyone near me eating anything other than the two dishes the FA mentioned but who knows. I think maybe between this and the fact that the crew seemed to have no idea what they were serving, it probably added to the impression that the experience was even more degraded than usual.
To add to that, there was almost no service after dinner until shortly before landing. Bit of a perfect storm I guess, in terms of things not being right.

Yes it's definitely a reduced service D1 on that route.... Both on the 757 (which is most of the flights) and your 767.. They have their oldest planes with the lie flats on this route now.. There was better planes a few years ago but that was before international travel took off again. You should have had more than 2 meal choices so that's either a catering miss unless they were out by the time they got to your row.
As for the FA knowledge on the menu, asking a passenger what they want has gone the way of short hand..... There are lot of nice things to know that come with the dishes but instead its, chicken, beef for this bowl thing...

DL flies the 75S on the SFO->JFK->SFO route currently, so I’m curious when you were on a B763ER recently…must have been a one-off substitution. Also the FAs have shown me the menu choices on their phones rather than just verbally announcing the choices on all my recent flights, but that may not be the way all of them do it.

Yep, I was on the 1.50 pm SFO-JFK.
Delta have not been sending me surveys recently but I found one in my inbox this am, this will undoubtedly be the most negative feedback I have ever given to one of these.

look, I'm a huge Delta fan but their service on these transcons seems to fail in comparison to UA, AA, B6 and I don't know how they're continuing to sell so many tickets on this route with such an uncompetitive offering.
Then again, I've not flown an ex-NYC/BOS transcon to experience this.

Unfortunately this is the current standard .. and on top of that, at least as of last year the D1 domestic meals were exactly the same as longer-haul F domestic meals anyway, IIRC. Domestic D1 has fallen a long, long way from its glory days back in the ~2015 timeframe.

you should also write in and complain. truly unacceptable service on what was likely a very expensive ticket.

I did fill out their survey and essentially said that unless something changes, I no longer regard domestic D1 as worth my money. I think it might even be worse than during the pandemic, I had a couple of wonderful D1 flights from SEA-JFK during that time (although the A330-900 NEO certainly helped the overall experience there).
