Kinda underwhelming compared to SFO-Christchurch or LAX-Brisbane

DL needs additional aircraft to do those.

While right decision at time, getting rid of 777 has put DL in a bind.

This is a good add; I hope they can make it work. It seems that lots of Americans "discovered" Mexico during the pandemic -- there were so many more Americans last time I went to Mexico City I couldn't believe it -- so between increased tourism and hub-hub traffic, they should have enough traffic. BOS also becomes a good tertiary connection point between MEX and Europe.

So? This has absolutely nothing to do with Christchurch or Brisbane. Or SFO or LAX.

It has? They are the most profitable US airline. They also don't have enough pilots caught up on training to fly the planes they have anyway.

I was in the Finance Department at my company, so I have no prejudice against beancounters...

BUT,,, over the years I have seen many decisions (in my company and others) where decisions that seemed right at the time were terrible strategically.

It has. Just because they're profitable doesn't mean they couldn't be more profitable. However they're limited for expansion.

DL like all airlines were at risk of ceasing to exist. The millions brought in end up helping the company.

Hindsight being 20/20 might answer be different? Sure. However it might not. You can only base on what you know at the time. Att the time it was thought it would take years to return to current levels.

Wonder how this route is going to do, especially with the travel warnings telling US citizens not to travel to Mexico due to the violence and kidnappings that've been going on and getting worse.

The current warning status from the State Department for Mexico City is "exercise increased caution". This is the same status currently afforded places like the United Kingdom and Spain.

Before the Pandemic, Aeromexico flew a nonstop BOS-MEX route. Seems like this is a natural replacement, except on partner Delta. It will enable Aeromexico connections throughout Mexico.
