If this were an amazing cash deal I'd jump on it to earn the miles, but even with a killer redemption rate that A LOT of travel.

How many extra hours is it though? 7-8?

Apologies if that went right over my head and I’m not picking up on something. But is it truly possible to book this as a single ticket EZE-JFK via AMS with SkyMiles?

I thought DL had strict routing rules and if flying to JFK from EZE via Europe isn’t one I’d be shocked.

It may have been one ticket, but was sold as back to back. Meaning AMS was not a connection. Basically EZE-AMS award combined with AMS-JFK. I've seen these combos offered before usually involving AF/KL.

It's possible that there was a hiccup in award fare routing rule and was offered as connection. However it is doubtful. You usually can't fly from Zone 1 to Zone 1 via another Zone as one fare component.

In fairness, the courts have expanded EC261 way past what was intended. It is one reason even experts have hard time with EC261.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Did they go poll the people who worked on EC 261/2004 drafts and those who approved EC 261/2004 to find out the intent was narrower than it now is?

People are focusing on it being a single ticket, but does it not also have to be a true connection on the ticket and not just 2 legs of a ticket that are the same day for
261 to not apply?

I would be a bit surprised if OP had a connection in AMS as opposed to a multi-citiy journey.
