Yeah, sounds like Kansas City's new airport is going to get a new sky club

It was approved about a month ago. There's some existing threads where it has been discussed.

It's in the news here because it is making it's way through final approvals, the full City Council still needs to approve the lease, but since the Committee approved it unanimously yesterday with no real discussion, that's likely a formality.

However, there was one nugget in the brief presentation, the leased area is going to be 11,500 total, 10,500 of indoor space, and 1,000 feet of outdoor space for a patio. Yup, MCI is getting a SkyDeck!

Below are the two slides from the brief presentation.

It’ll be a nice space. We had great views of the airfield when I toured the space a few months back.

This is excellent news. I'm surprised they didn't go with a PriortyPass-type lounge, since the vast majority of slots out of MCI are WN. I'm not sure what percentage of traffic is DL, but they have fewer than ten gates if memory serves.

WN Is by far the largest airline, but not 'a vast majority of slots', they have a little over 40% of total passengers (used to be close to 50%), DL and AA are both just under 20% now, UA is fourth at close to 10%, then the assorted other carriers with the scraps (Alaska, Spirit, Frontier, and Allegiant). Delta typically operates out of four gates and has a pod with two more gates that I believe they only use for the early morning peak of flight departures (ATL, MSP, DTW, SLC, LGA, BOS, and LAX).

One of the losing concession proposals included a Plaza Premium lounge as one of their concessions. It was rumored here on FT that the space on the Mezzanine was intended for two lounges, but it appears Delta is leasing it all, 11,500 square feet with a SkyDeck is a good size SkyClub for an airport like MCI. I believe the airlines have first dibs on the space over a third-party because they already lease space at the airport.

Video of overall terminal construction progress, around 49 seconds the SkyClub location is front and center. It doesn't appear they are doing any building for a SkyDeck, but maybe because that will need to be done by Delta's contractor once the airport's contractor does their part of finishing the shell.

Big improvement from MCI - hopefully security lines will still be short after the concourse consolidation. Will be a different experience to have restaurants past security now.

Excellent information. Thank you. I'm excited for the opening.

A SC will be nice to have at MCI (again). Apparently the Top of the Crown Grill above the DL gates use to be a SC (or Crown Room Club back then) about 15 years ago but DL shuttered it when it was in bankruptcy.

New SkyClub in the new MCI airport opens 2/28/23

I was able to go the the open house of the new MCI airport opening 2.28.23. The SkyClub is in the B terminal hub.

Can't wait to visit it! It wasn't open today. Delta will be in gates B40 - B52.
