Question: does underseater count as one small personal item?
Hello, Everyone. :)
I’ve been trying to find something that works better for me, as I keep getting bogged down with my travel purse, Cpap, backpack etc. I found this underseater luggage that I plan to put my Cpap and purse in so I can just push or pull it and take the weight off my body. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5317c6fe1.jpeg DH and I are flying again on Delta at the end of April. I don’t know yet if we are checking a bag but if we decide to carry on, do you think this would count as my small personal item, so that I could bring this onboard along with a carry on size? Thanks. We are going on a cruise, so I’m probably checking in a large luggage. I was just wondering how this under seat size fits into the general category of small personal item. Thanks for any input. |
Scale:
Medium check in, underseater, carryon sizes https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1ce7ab99b.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...eb705e3ae.jpeg |
I don't believe that Delta explicitly states the maximum size of a personal item, just that it can be stored under the seat. So assuming that smaller bag will fit under the seat in front of you I don't think you'll have an issue.
Approved Personal Items Bringing a personal item? Pick an item like this or of a similar size to store beneath the seat in front of you during your flight.

Thank you so much for looking that up. I appreciate your time.
That is what I was hoping— in the very least, my Cpap and meds will be in the underseater. But once I had my Cpap in a small LLbean duffel bag (like really small) and the gate agent told me my Cpap had to be in the dedicated CPAP (which if you know, is very small and accommodate anything else like meds or spare parts). I explained to her that the Cpap was the only thing in there and that she was welcome to check, but she let it go. I don’t remember what airline that was. |
Of course it always depends on the gate agent... you'll most likely not have an issue, but you could always get that one having a bad day and on a power trip that gives you a hard time.

As long as it only contains medical items, a bag doesn't count against carry on item count. However once you put non-medical in with medical it counts.

Thanks! I agree that I would likely only have my Cpap and meds in that bag. Thanks for the reminder then that it wouldn’t count toward a personal item either. I’ve only had 1 gate agent ever say anything about my Cpap and that it had to be in the dedicated Cpap bag.
I am tired of having a purse, backpack and Cpap while walking around the airport. This will make that so much better for me. |

I have never been asked to open my CPAP bag (as a 3rd carry-on) to prove that it only contained medical items. YMMV.
