Minneapolis Polar Plunge with Delta

Delta is a corporate partner with the Minnesota Special Olympics through participation in its Polar Plunge. Last year, we, as Diamond Flyers, were invited to join the plunge with over 300 Delta employees from all over the world. This year, Delta is inviting a group of 20 Diamond, Million Milers or 360 Flyers to plunge with the Delta team on March 4, 2023 at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis.

Plunge events include a corporate hour the night before the plunge, a team party before and refreshments after the plunge. As plungers we were able to rub elbows with Delta employees ranging from ramp workers to executives from all over the world. We have been told that this year, there will even be representatives of the Singapore call center attending.

The Diamond/Flyer group is limited to 20 flyers. This is a fund-raising event for Special Olympics which requires a minimum $75.00 contribution. The Plunge is a big team building event for Delta and the invitation of Flyers to participate is on a trail basis this year. We hope the Flyer team will make Delta proud of our contributions and open participation for a larger group next year by raising substantially more than the minimum contribution. Special Delta swag will be given to our group's largest contributor.

If you have questions, please respond to this post. If interested in participation, please PM me or PeteMSP. How participants will be chosen will be based upon the number of responses.

Sounds like fun, but I guess my status isnt sufficient

Cool they will have call center reps from Singapore, but lets be sure they remain the best kept secret at Delta!

Anyone interested, please let me know in the next few days. You can participate without plunging, but we are still limited to 20 people

It's almost too bad the plunge isn't happening now or this weekend. It was 44 F today although my car said we hit 47 F this afternoon.

BTW, guests from out-of-town might be interested in the Northwest History Centre (museum about the history of the airline, although much smaller than the DL museum at ATL), which seems to have reopened postCOVID19 with limited hours, IIRC Friday and Saturday afternoons. It's located at a light rail stop between MSP and the MOA which I believe is called the 34th Street Station.

There is still space available. Take the plunge and do the plunge. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!

Come cheer us on. Delta plunges at noon Saturday. Still space to plunge, and donate.

The Special Olympics is happy to take donations from anyone. You can donate to my plunge at reg.plungemn.org/participant/fayfishman Be patient. This is the first time it’s been open to flyers. If all goes well, we may be able to open it wider next year

It isn't still in the Crowne Plaza? We went there in August of 2020 right after it reopened during the first lull in COVID. We had a nice long chat with the volunteer curator since we were the only ones in there for much of the time - Well, I did anyway; my wife was mostly standing with her arms crossed and her feet tapping.

My understanding it that it's still at the Crowne Plaza, but with limited hours, IIRC Friday and Saturday when I last checked. There's a light rail stop in the middle of 28th Street right outside of the hotel. It's the third stop if you're riding from MOA to MSP, although the stops are all very close to each other in this area.

ADDED: I just changed 24th to 28th Street. 24th Street is right on the east side of MOA.

What an absolutely fabulous event this was. We all interact with the GAs, FAs, RAs, on a regular basis, but it was great to meet so many of the people "behind the scenes" too!

Big thanks to FC Flyer and Mr. FC Flyer for getting us this opportunity. My only regret was that there weren't more of us there. I've put this on the calendar for 2024 and encourage you all to do the same!
