Online Check In problems - Codeshare Delta / KLM

Anyone experienced similar problems when trying to do Online Check In 24 Hours before flying?

Daughter is flying tomorrow:

Manchester (05:55) KLM 1070 / Delta DL9546 - Amsterdam
Amsterdam (09:50) KLM KL661 / Delta DL9170 - Houston (IAH)

She only has carry on hand luggage so doesn't really want the pallaver of queueing tomorrow morning with all the people checking in with Hold Luggage. If she can check in online she will be able to just head straight through security.

She managed to get to the Check In page and it wouldn't let her check in - it said check in with KLM. When she tried to check in on KLM it said she needs to check in with Delta...............

Any tips greatly appreciated. She has rung Delta who said everything looks fine with her booking - and advised her to check in at the Airport tomorrow! Exactly what she is trying to avoid.............

I believe there is no Delta Check In Desk at Manchester so assume it will be a KLM Check In Desk. The other alternative is the Self Service Check in Stations but I've a feeling she'll run into the same problems she's having with online check in.

You always check in with the operating carrier of your first flight -- in this case, KLM.

You may or may not be able to check in using klm.com or the KLM app. If you can't (and it happens both for IT reasons and for other reasons like passport verification and SSSS), you will have to check in at the airport.

I'd call Delta and ask the agent to work through check-in with you so they can see any error. I had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago due a ticketing issue after applying GUC. Delta said everything was fine until I got the agent to try and check me in, at which point she saw the problem, contacted the KL/AF supprt desk and their agent fixed it.

I flew the 6am MAN-AMS flight yesterday and there was a long queue at 3AM which is when the check-in staff start work. Security at MAN can also be a pain - they seem to run the scanners on super-sensitivity and a large proprotion of bags seems to get sent to secondary screening. I've taken to taking out pretty much everything that could possibly trigger the scanner and dropping it into the tray as a loose item.

Just happened to me a few days ago. DL-booked, DL-coded, KL-operated flights (Germany -> AMS -> US). Couldn't check in using either app or website. Airport check-in worked fine but it was annoying as there were no bags to be checked either.

Seconding this. Always better to try and rectify any issues when you're on the phone, at home, without any undue time pressure while standing at the airport. Unfortunately, sometimes the DL/KL codeshare just doesn't cooperate when it comes to checking in anywhere but the ticket counter (frustrating, indeed). One thing to check - if you go to the reservation on DL.com and click on "view receipt," does everything match? Flight numbers, class of service, etc.? If there have been any schedule changes, upgrades, etc. since booking, and the ticket wasn't reissued to reflect that, then it will prevent you from being able to check in. If you do have a discrepancy there, it'll be way less stressful to handle it ahead of time.

If that looks good and DL is telling you they don't see anything, then it just might in fact be bad luck and she'll have to go to the counter.

You need to check in at the KL/AF check-in desk at MAN and it's recommended that they get there before 3 am because of the queues for check-in and security. KL/AF still haven't fixed things on their end with document checks and such and people complain about not being able to check-in on the app on the AF/KL forums here.

Normally I would second calling DL and pushing to find the reason why OLCI was not working. I don’t like to accept the “just check in at the airport” answer because most of the time something is indeed wrong that needs to be solved ahead of time. BUT, since KL is operating the first segment, checkin must be done with them, and I doubt DL will be able to attempt a check in on their end. I would recommend having her get to the airport 3-4 hours before departure to be safe. Best of luck!

My last KL flight a few months ago had to be done at the airport, but then again US Covid testing was still in place.

Good point. I was flying AF OLB-CDG-BOS over the summer after the COVID negative test requirement was dropped, booked through AF with AF flight numbers, no changes, etc., and I still had to go to the ticket counter to check in. The agent had no idea why, but it took him all of 30 seconds to issue my BP.

Well I'm not sure what the actual problem was but eventually managed online check in and allocated seats but unable to print boarding passes - website advised to check in at the airport and get them printed at the airport. Joined the large queue at KLM Desk but noticed some people being directed to Priority Check In as they only had Carry On Bags - so she joined that queue and was checked in with Boarding Passes within 5 minutes. So hopefully hassle free out to Houston but there is always the return which is next week - Houston Hobby - Atlanta - Paris CDG - Manchester. I did notice a direct flight on the departures board to Houston with Singapore Airlines but assume she didn't book that one as prohibitively expensive.
