A Delta 767 was banned by Ghana

Interesting read, one of deltas 767s was banned from flying to Ghana due to multiple delays and maintenance issues.

Sounds like a good way to have Delta not fly to your country.

I think there's legitimate issues with this one plane. Plus it seems DL was happy to keep putting it back on this particular route. Its sorta like DL was saying ACC can be whippingboy.

(Note I'm not saying DL is flying unsafe planes, they have in fact believed they fixed issue before dispatch)

The article was written in a sensationalistic/gossipy manner and is emblematic of why I don't read OMMAT. I have no basis from this article or anywhere else as for the other delays and diversions. Also, lay people have no idea what the considerations are. For example, how much did ETOPS compliance play a role? Were these issues related?

We just don't know.

I think using the dates from the article and the dates from looking up the history of the aircraft we can figure out what caused the mechanical issues.
N-Number Aircraft History for N195DN (aircraftlookup.com)

We just don't know what cuased the non mechanical delays.

But the same aircraft is flying JFK to LAX as we type this.

I can't find an article on it right now, but a few years ago Ghana was mad at British Airways because the 747s that kept getting sent down there were having issues - made it out to be that BA was singling out Ghana. This could very well be a similar instance of someone spouting off trying to make themselves look better.

17 Aug DL216 JFK-DSS
19 Aug DL217 DSS-JFK

This. After awhile, even if not correct, it feels like you're being dumped on.

That's a seriously cool website. I've never seen that before. Thanks!

So it looks like these two issues were unrelated... and the plane went MONTHS without any problems. ::shrug::

Edited to add: I was looking up a flight I was recently on that had a mechanical after we departed the gate but before takeoff that forced an overnight. This wasn't listed on this website. So it appears that not everything is reported.

What's DSS? It's not on the FT airport code lookup. Could it be a typo for DUS = Dusseldorf, Germany?

BTW, this aircraft has made some nice trips recently. It's nice that DL sends it off to see the world after its recovery from not feeling so well.

So is this a back-handed way of saying someone is sabotaging the Ghana flights? Only has issues when flying this route?

I guess members of Ghana's government don't like their (all expense paid) shopping trips delayed. This isn't the first time Ghana has pulled such a stunt.

I'm not very familiar with how to track this but is there any way to see historical flights for this plane? I was supposed to fly JFK to LAX on Delta ~2 weeks ago and we had an emergency landing due to fuel being smelled in the cabins after having multiple initial maintenance issues that had us grounded for ~2 hours. I wonder if it is the same plane.

Flightaware allows you to enter a tail number and see all its flights. Similarly, they display the tail number when you enter the flight number and date.
