Diamond Secured - Status Match Other Airline?
I secured Diamond again for next year and have a little over 400k MQM’s. I am considering swapping my weekly work travel to another program for the rest of the year to try and double down on top tier status.
Being ATL based, I am absolutely fed up with the prices for international personal travel and feel like I could get more value with United or American.
Has anyone else done a status match challenge to another program?
How about ATL based folks flying American or United internationally? Are you happy with the move?
Thanks in advance!

Only issue is that airlines limit how many times you can do a status match. Do it when you don't really need it and you might lose out on a chance when you do need it.
I also don't think many airlines give you their TOP status on a match

Do United or American serve your destination with the same number of connections as Delta from ATL?
I've never understood the urge to take sub-optimal flights for a long time just to get status on multiple carriers. For international travel, the connectivity might be somewhat more comparable, but still... ATL.

I've been wondering the same thing. A lot of my travel is to cities with direct UA/AA flights out of ATL. But, I'm not sure I could get enough flights to get any meaningful status on either of those.

It seems that DL Gold, Platinum and Diamond only get matched as high as AA Platinum. DL Silver gets AA Gold. This mirrors the matching against UA where even GS gets matched to AA Platinum.

I have never understood the urge to not reap the benefits of the status you have earned. I am lifetime Diamond at Hilton....should I never stay there again. Having said that, people fleeing after obaining status is why rollover was created in the first place.

Can agree with this. AA does a status challenge for sometimes for plat pro but it's usually gold or plat. I called UA early last year when I still had EK Platinum but they offered Gold instead of Platinum, so called it quits. I also think UA is also technically a challenge because you have to meet certain thresholds to maintain status.

I would say status match only if you need it, or if you expect your status to run out. You can't keep doing it, so make sure when you do it, it's worthwhile.
Corporate travel contract status matches are common, but that doesn't help the general public.
It's normal for airlines to not match to top tier. It's fairly common that top tier is something that is only earned. Although again, corporate contracts can include a certain number of top tier matches too.
Usually the idea of a status match is to keep high value flyers from having to 'start from scratch'. So giving them a high-ish level of status accomplishes that.

While not exactly an answer to OP's question, but if OP opts for UA, ANA is currently offering a status match:
https://www.ana.co.jp/en/us/amc/prem...-status-match/
OP can then at least "enjoy" the United Club when flying domestically on UA as an ANA PLAT through March of 2023.
Just an option.
(edit...used wrong alliance, i mentioned OW originally)
