VN PNR not working on website?
I purchased a Vietnam Airlines ticket using Delta SkyMiles (award ticket) but the app shows my seat as unassigned. I called Delta to get the VN PNR but whenever I try to lookup my booking on the Vietnam Airlines website or app, they say that the information is invalid. The rep confirmed the flight is ticketed with an 006 number, but I can't find any more information about it. Is this normal or should I call VN for this?

For what it's worth, the flight is ticketed with a 006 number. Unfortunately for me, VN seems to have discontinued their phone customer service due to the pandemic - I get an automated message saying to send an email instead
I'll wait to hear back what they say. I'm considering rebooking this with cash directly with VN just for that peace of mind..

I flew VN years ago but with a VN ticket (really great BC fare LHR-Australia). As I recall the VN www sit is really picky about accepting even their own PNR. Needed to be case sensitive and my name had to be entered exactly as ticketed or maybe all UC.
I seem to recall being able to lookup a booking with the ticket number, too, but my ticket was on 738 stock.
I did manage to call their SF office but long hold times and west coast business hours; once I got through they were very helpful.
If you have a voip phone service, maybe try calling VN's Australia phone # - OZ-VN is a pretty active market with VN flights to both SYD and MEL.
Also, I seem to recall an FT post about finding ST PNRs using the web sites of some of the 'OTHER' ST airlines, as I recall Garuda and Saudia although I just tried to lookup a DL ticketed VS PNR on Garuda and wasn't successful so maybe that doesn't work any more. It did work in the past as I recall.

When you book a ticket with VN from DL, you likely have a second PNR with a completely different 6 character "record locator" that was created by the VN reservation system. When you go to VN's website, it is expecting the VN PNR ID, not the DL one. The VN record locator is in the Delta PNR somewhere. You could call DL and ask.

Thanks everyone - unfortunately didn't get any success with using the DL or VN PNR on Garuda or Saudia. I also haven't gotten a reply from VN's customer service email, so I've decided to just spend the extra cash to book directly with VN. I'll play the partner award roulette game next trip 🙂

Here it is months later and this airlines customer service call center
is still closed 🙄🤷♂️
the ticket number doesnt work on their website nor does the locator issued by skyteam flying blue
There are two locators the flying blue number and one supposedly that VA goes by
I've purchased a ticket on Singapore airlines so I have a plan b just in case I end up canceling
Is there anybody worse than this airline? Scary
Will they answer an email?

I, too, am faced with this dilemma. I just used miles on Delta to purchase Vietnam Airlines tickets for flights within Asia. I'd like to get my seats assigned. Has anyone found a way to get the Vietnam Airlines PNR? Is the only way to call Delta?

but in any case the ACKN fields all have the format 1AxxxxxxDDMMMHHSSZ where xxxxxx is the AF/KL PNR. Dunno if the format is the same across all airlines but you could give it a try...

Calling/messaging Delta will work; although I did notice that for an upcoming AF/KL booking I have that was made through DL, if I put the DL PNR into pnr.sh (thread: Delta unofficial PNR viewer) that there are a number of ACKN fields which, based on Googling, seem to be an acknowledgement of changes to the ticket from the operating airline or something like that? (maybe a reservations expert can give a real explanation)

I just wasted an hour of my Saturday afternoon. I quickly got a Delta agent and then all my luck ran out. He patiently worked on the issue for a half hour. He found what he thought was the Vietnam Airlines PNR but could not pull up my booking on the Vietnam Airlines website. He then forwarded me to the partner desk where he said the wait was an hour. At the half hour mark, I had other things I needed to accomplish besides listenning to music on hold and hung up. I'm accustomed to the United Airlines site where the partner PNRs are shown automatically.

Lets hope their in flight experience is better than their IT reservations call center & Skyteam support..
KLM was able to secure seats effortlessly. Now if seats stick once assigned thats another story.
I paid for seats on Austrian Airlines and they gave them away to someone else and refused a refund!
