The OP didn't provide particular dates but if flights to South America were under $300, it just as likely reflects low demand for those flights.

I fly from Europe to MSP/FSD and back a few times a year. It is most of the time a lot cheaper (as in $300 to $400 cheaper) to buy a ticket from Europe to South America with a stop over in MSP/FSD than a straight up r/t to MSP or FSD. So I stop in Lima or Sao Paulo for a night and a nice dinner, courtesy of the revenue management system at Delta. Go figure.

Please remove this before they nerf these sweet spots :/

The 25K award tickets to Denver in June would now have a $1400 cash price each. I’m feeling a little smug about that speculative booking from last December.

Since you are searching on roundtrip basis, the choice of return date can have big impact in the total roundtrip "From" prices listed above. Since you posted above, they opened 'L' bucket inventory on 6/23 outbound flights above leading to somewhat lower fares (L is one fare class lower than K fares).
BE/C+ fares use main cabin coach fare basis codes and "mirror" the Main Cabin fare filings. However, BE fares only go so far up the fare hierarchy before DL stops offering them (while C+ fare filings mirror main cabin fares all the way up to Y fares). On this route, the BE fares filings only go as high as T class and you will only see BE fares available for purchase when there is inventory in T, X, or V coach classes (even when there is inventory open in the BE 'E' booking class).

Still cheaper as of today to fly to South America instead of South Dakota. Not everyone wants to be stuck in the US with the upcoming heat waves. Too many snowbirds in this thread.

Next thing you'll discover that widebody flights from NY to Paris can be cheaper than a flight on a regional jet between two small cities!

If you want to go down a rabbit hole someday, search for the Mexican Hat Dance here in the olden days of FT. It was driven primarily by AC wanting to compete with I think JL on YVR-MEX.
Upshot was that AC allowed unlimited stopovers for their J fare, and the J fare YVR-MEX was far, far cheaper than the midweek refundable Y fare YVR-YYZ..... There were a number of FT dinners near ORD for folks who were routed YVR-YYZ-stopover-ORD-redeyeMEX.
