Depends on the time of the flight. If it's an overseas redeye I'd love to have the opportunity for a decent meal at the airport and a coupel cocktails and sleep the flight. There have been times in D1 going to LHR where I'll sleep and skip the breakfast service and shower and grab something to eat at the arrivals lounge. If I want to stay awake most of the flight I'd rather eat on board.

Ive only flown d1 one round trip post covid (MSP/HNL and HNL/ATL) and while the food was good on the return flight wasn't impressed with the alcohol selection. I would have rather had comped cocktails off the premium bar in the skyclub. They no longer have grey goose and it's the awful DuNord vodka, no rum going over (may have had it coming back) and they were only catered with four minis of bailey's and the wine selection wasn't great.

And for the MSP/HNL flight there was a wait to enter the Skyclub at MSP and I was on a pretty expensive ticket. Would have been nice to have had a D1 lounge there, especially since I required the wrist band to get into HNL

LGA Terminal C @ 6 PM on April 6

I re-upped my sky club membership as one of the choice benefits.

Here is what I saw at 6 PM on Wednesday April 6 (the line didn't extent materially beyond my photo).

But jeez, I had zero interest in doing that, and wonder how valuable membership is...

A friend of mine was at MCO last week and his flight was severely delayed and got in line and got on the phone to the special number for when you are at the airport wondering if he could get a phone agent first and did get a phone agent pretty fast that got him rebooked later that night and waited in line to get work done and said it was an hour and 15 minute wait and the place was full of kids and he had trouble finding an outlet for his laptop and there was a family next to the only spot he could find congregating watching a video on their tablet with no headphones. He is a lifetime member and said he would never pay to renew a membership. He said when he signed up decades ago for the lifetime membership it was more of a business atmopsphere and now it's more of a chuckie cheese's but that should be expect at a place like MCO

I think the new SC at DTW is a lot nicer than the other ones even though it is small and would make for a great D1 lounge, just don't charge for any alcohol.
I don't really think it's a good use of space for a D1 lounge at most airports where D1 departures are concentrated in the evenings. That said, they could operate them as SkyClubs for part of the day.
At the end of the day, if I flew D1 a lot I understand the argument for a premium D1 lounge vis-a-vis AA/UA, but if I flew more domestic then I'd rather have the higher-quality SkyClubs. I think a reasonable middle ground is to offer D1 passengers premium beverages in the SC (obviously not the Dom, but most of the wines and virtually all of the hard stuff) and have a priority entry line. [FWIW, I do NOT think there should be differentiation in priority entry for "real" SC members vs. Amex cardholders]. At that point the product is fairly comparable to an AA FL, and you're just missing the sit-down dining/made-to-order food of a UA PL, which from what I understand often requires a long wait for a table.

A lot of Delta Platinum and Reserve cards out there...

There are a lot of people that connect to D1 flights though at DTW. I agree it may make sense to make it D1 after a certain time (like the Club at ATL F when they start only allowing in premium passengers on their partner airlines in early evening when those flights go out and the club is at capacity) and think luxury drinks should be free (not Dom but the premium martinis and signature drinks and call brands like Titos). I would love to see a meal service or a voucher to use in the airport. I'd rather eat at Sora in DTW for free and just sleep on a redeye.

I don't have an issue with AmEx being given the same priority as a skyclub member (I think D1 ticket holders should get higher priority though since they don't have dedicate lounges) but think they should eliminate the guesting if the club is at capacity or at least limiting it to one guest and not allow people to guest in a whole family or a business man to guest in a few colleagues

Seeing AmEx cardholders get the same priority at the Skyclubs as members it would be nice if AmEx returned the favor if the CL's are at capacity. Friend of mine recently tried to access the CL at Vegas with his Delta Reserve card and was told regular AmEx cardholders were given higher priority on the wait list.

Even after airline/airport lounges started selling memberships in the USA, there was a time when they were still somewhat of a secret. The entrances were very low key and you almost had to know to look for a lounge to see them. I suspect that many frequent travelers weren't aware that there were these lounges and that they could purchase a membership for access. Back then, not much beyond coffee/tea and tap water were free, and there wasn't much food either, just drinks. For example, the TWA Ambassador Club offered coffee/tea and pretzel balls, plus ice water on hot summer days. The atmosphere was generally quiet, even hushed, except sometimes in the bar area. Most guests were dressed in business attire (there were dress codes then too). Most of the time I didn't see any children in the lounges.

Now everyone knows that there are these lounges and that they're a source of free food and drinks. Maybe the PMNW era of fake cheese had better overall lounge experiences.

BTW, I see hotel club lounges going in the same direction. A couple decades ago they were quiet places that were mostly used by business travelers. Many travelers weren't aware that some hotels had such lounges.

If lounge issues continue past the break weeks and into the summer I'll seriously reconsider not re-upping my Exec membership if they don't establish some sort of tier system for access. Waiting the 15 minutes outside the LGA club was dumb esp since the smaller club is closed and if was open there'd be no line. The way that small club is designed and faces looks like the kitchens are interconnected anyway.

LGA should be getting a new expanded club any day now - LAX gets one next week, so some of these issues are trying to be addressed. I think the Centurion Lounge has eased some pressure on JFK. Perhaps a solution is adding more Centurion Lounges in Delta hubs/terminals....

Oops, I got beat to the punch. The new LGA Sky Club opening soon with new terminal is supposed to be largest in network which should greatly improve situation.

A lot of Delta Platinum and Reserve cards out there...

Reserve Amex get free SC access as part of their card. Platinum Amex still have to pay an entry fee of $39.

When we left, there was a Red Coat at the bottom of the elevator vestibule, letting one person in for every person leaving.

Are there similar issues at the other ATL clubs, or is this primarily a problem at the B Bus Station and Bar?
B Club is where I've seen the longest lines.

Did ATL repurpose the old ATL B locations, or is the space still empty?

DL should have kept both open. The center B club has been bad for years.
