purchasing dl gift card

I have several saved credit cards in my payment info on delta.com. I tried purchasing a $50 gc, it would only allow me to use the "primary" card in my list. I guess I could unselect the primary and then reselect it.

Unless you have to, don't buy DL gift card. There are lots of limitation as shown on dl.com. Major ones are listed below.
  • eGifts and Cards may only be used for the total purchase price of air transportation, including taxes, fees, and surcharges imposed on the air transportation. They may not be used for any additional fees (including baggage fees) or for any other products or services (including class upgrades, in-flight purchases, premium seating, mileage booster, SkyMiles Cruises, cargo, hotel stays, or car rentals).
  • eGifts and Cards may only be used for travel on Delta Air Lines marketed flights, including those operated as Delta Connection® and by Delta Air Lines codeshare partners with a Delta Air Lines flight number.
  • eGifts and Cards may only be used for the Delta Air Lines air transportation portion of a Delta Vacations package.

The one thing that I don't like is the baggage fee. Unless your booked fare already include baggage, (or if the passenger are exempt....eg. DL elite or DL credit card), it's not possible to use the gift card to purchasing baggage fee.

I have DL as my selected airline for my Amex Business Plat and Hilton Aspire cards, $200 and $250 (resp.) are reimbursed annually from each--normally airfare purchases don't qualify. In the FT Amex forum there are work-a-rounds using DL gift cards; pre-2019 DL gift card purchases counted, now it is a little "trickier":p.
PS: In my OP, I deselected my AMEX and chose a VISA debit card to purchase a DL gc, I then restored my Amex as the primary.

RE: the AMEX Plat/Aspire airline fee credit, you don't need to start with a gift card to use the workaround. An eCredit will work just as well.

It would be "nice" if I could use two cc/debit cards as payment. From casino promos I have LOTS of Simon Visa cards and Vanilla Visa cards (but NO DL eCredits), so I used these to buy GCs.
Could agents split ticket purchases across two cc/debit cards?
