I could keep sugar or flour for a long time, but I would prefer not to.

Happy new thread!

REPOST from the now disabled thread.

Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Delta Lounge( TM) Meetup (aka “NOLA-R&RM-DLM-DO”). 2/3 - 2/7/22
*** Please keep all follow up communications to PM's. I'll keep all involved updated with a link to another site. ***

ALSO NOTE - This event is a Meetup, not a DO!

Finally, A formal notification of the event. I’ve tried to incorporate all of the feedback I’ve gotten at HH’s and particularly want to thank
jrl767 for his help and suggestions.

The New Orleans Rock ‘N Roll marathon is scheduled for the weekend of February 5th and 6th 2022.

- mattp1987 is planning on running the Half Marathon which will be on Sunday, February 6th 2022. The starting time has not been announced yet.

- Since everyone is traveling on their own schedule with arrivals as early as Thursday and departures as late as Tuesday, this will be a multi-day event encompassing Friday through Monday.

- Much of the weekend activity will take place at and in our home, so we’re going to make this a Private Event and I will only post about it in the Lounge. We feel that we’re comfortable with those we know respecting our property and complying with the one other requirement – Vaccination or PCR test with 3 days. We’re both seniors and immune-compromised, and we live a careful life because of that. There’s also an expectant mother among the attendees. Masks will be optional and available. I don’t think I really need to remind any of you that this is *NOT* a political thing, but it *IS* a health and safety issue for us and the other attendees.

- New Orleans has a requirement that admission to indoor bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, and other public places requires proof of vaccination or a current PCR test, so anyone who doesn’t meet the requirements won’t be able to participate in just about everything we do.

- Everyone seems to be planning on accommodations which are close to our home (within walking distance), and therefore we’ll use our place as a focal and gathering point for all DO activities. Obviously, since we’re located on the Race Course, watching and cheering for the participants, especially Matt, will be at our house. I’ve already provided many of you with our address; if you don’t have it, please PM me.

- We’ll have an open house for the attendees to watch the Race and we’ll provide food and liquid refreshments. Therefore, we need a fairly accurate count of attendees.

- If there’s someone you know and would like to invite, please feel free to do so. GW McLintock asked about this and I believe that we all felt that is was fine. But please help keep it to a reasonable number.

- Our home is the second floor of a c. 1861 residence which is on The National Register of Historic Places. The staircase has 21 steps (that’s what high ceilings create), and we’ve never had a problem getting folks up and down, including wheelchair-bound people. The race will be watchable either from the street in front of the house or from our Gallery (“balcony” to tourists) which can easily accommodate 16 – 20 folks.

- COVID considerations. Omicron has taken over and is having chilling effects on travel. Because of the aggressive transmission I feel it’s best to focus on outdoor vs. indoor activities ad a now planning accordingly.

- Other Events

- For those arriving on Thursday – if you don’t have plans, come by for drinks and we’ll all go out for a casual dinner.
- I’d like to get suggestions for Friday and Saturday ... of course there’s absolutely nothing to stop anyone from going off and doing things on their own:
- Sightseeing – Walking tours or carriage rides. French Quarter, Garden District
- Zoo, Botanical Garden, Cemeteries
- WW II or other Museums
- Jazz club(s) – also an option for those who arrive Thurs
- Saturday brunch

Group Dinners – mattp1987 pointed out that Saturday evening will be race prep for him and so we’re going to have a Group Dinner on Friday evening. Almost everyone should have arrived and it should be a fun evening. We’re looking at nice places that have outdoor dining and can accommodate a group of our size. There aren’t many places that can handle a group our size with a price point from $ to $$$$ and a variety of food types. My recommendation is that we do a “nice” dinner on Friday night and a more reasonably priced meal on Saturday. I NEED FEEDBACK about this please. Most New Orleans restaurants use a computer system that limits the number of separate checks and the number of credit cards used on each check. From what I know of the Loungers I don’t anticipate a problem and there are always Venmo and Zelle to help us settle between ourselves. I need to get a count ASAP so that I can make an initial reservation.

o My recommendation for Friday night is a new restaurant that opened last fall. The name is Saint John. They have a second floor outdoor balcony that can accommodate our group. Their website is https://saintjohnnola.com/ It’s a sister restaurant to well known uptown “Gris Gris” If you have a restaurant that you like or one you want to try, please let me know and I’ll post the so the group can decide MSP has already asked about Bayona which is in the $$$ range and has an upstairs room (staircase only) which can handle us and possibly their courtyard. They have a no separate check policy so we’d have to handle the splitting ourselves. Many old line, well known places like Antoine’s, Galatoire’s , and Tujague’s were also mentioned but don’t have outdoor seating. GW wants crawfish and I’ve promised that he’ll get will get some. Lots of choices as to the style but it’s about a month early for a crawfish boil.

o Monday will be recovery and straightening-up day for us (and for our housekeeper). We fly out on Wednesday.

- I return from a trip on 1/27 so my wife will be doing a lot of last minute arranging while I’m gone
. Therefore, I’d like to get as much done as possible before I leave on the trip on 1/20.

- Airport Transportation. Uber/Lyft tends to be more expensive for 1 – 3 people. Cabs are fixed price, $36 + tip for 1 or 2 and $15 per person for 3 or more. Cabs will be in heavy demand for early Monday morning to the airport. I have a ‘regular driver’ and can arrange for pickup to get you to MSY for the earliest flights (5:30 AM departure would mean a 4 AM pickup if you’re checking bags. 20-25 min to the airport and then bag check and TSA(MSY has Clear and TSA Pre).

- Mardi Gras is March 1, 2022 and MG activities don’t get cranked up until the weekend after the Marathon. There will be lots of decorations but there won’t be a decision about parades for a few weeks.

I just realized that this is now the third iteration of the The Lounge™ thread. Together we are all making FT history (I guess).

My leg hurts I am taking an extended lunch tomorrow to attend a funeral. I am able to putter about with a cane, but today I think I overexerted myself.

Are you still mostly symptom free? How's your wife doing?

Sorry if I missed any updates over the last few days/thread change.

Sending wishes for good health and quick recovery to SuperG and MrsG as well as GWMc. Both of my in-laws had coughs while they were here, so we were relieved when they both tested negative before their flight home. It was probably allergies as they suspected. All four of us are boosted, so it wasn’t a major concern.

The menu at Saint John looks good, and we like the outdoor seating idea with the unpredictability of Omicron. Put me down for 6 please.

Fack. Hoping your symptoms are mild???

I feel this new thread is FT's way of helping us lose the 2021 COVID 15. And, I for one, don't like it. Blergh.

Flew DL83 CDG-ATL yesterday, all time most wild flight in my book.
  • 2 hour check in line, flight was delayed by an hour waiting for everyone to get processed
  • Normal first 8 hours
  • Medical emergency two rows in front of me, unconscious 70 year old man
    • Was in a Paris hospital for 3 days prior and upon release boarded the flight
  • Diversion into Detroit and then two hours on the ground waiting for fuel and a new flight plan
  • Back in the air a man in the row in front of me has a multi-minute seizure, puking everywhere, unconscious for most of the ride back to Atlanta

All in all I can’t believe my luggage wasn’t lost and upon landing Delta had no problem rebooking me onto a different flight into MCO. I jumped on the plane train to the A Terminal and walked right on. I’m also hoping to not hear the “are there any doctors on board” message for a long time.
