Delta In-Flight Meal/Food Service: The Definitive Thread — 2022 Edition

New year, new thread. Hopefully we start to see improvements with Domestic FC meal catering soon. The sad boxes can’t go away fast enough!

1/3 ATL-SFO

Sad box. Usual crap. Charcuterie was sadder than normal. Prosciutto inconsumable, even after excessive mastication. Deposited discreetly back into saddest box and sent away.

*SIGH*

1/3 FLL-ATL. Awesome FA. No PDB. Snack basket passed. Got a thank you note!
1/3 ATL-PHX A333. No PBD despite being on board for 2 hours with 2 MECH delays. Sad box with Turkey sandwich. Partner had Salmon Salad, he said was good. Some apple slices and grapes (what is this? Preschool?) and pumpkin swirl bread. Coach wine minis and plastic cups. Wi-Fi did not work. No snack basket and no proactive refills. Had to ask for more when they passed through for rubbish.
Back to AA/UA for me...

1/4 JFK-SEA - Delta One

Beef Short Rib

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4cd30ca2fe.jpg

These meals were both pretty good. The focaccia was a little overcooked, but the meatloaf had a solid crowd pleasing marinara flavor and the short rib was fairly tender. I wouldn't say either was a stand out memorable star - the short rib was pretty bland and the potatoes were blander despite looking great - but both were entirely reasonable cuisine I wouldn't complain about on an international flight. The salad was a goat cheese salad that I really enjoyed, and the cheesecake dessert was much better than the cream/pudding affair we were served on the outbound flight from SEA.

These were not our preordered choices because - shocker - our original BOS-SEA flight was cancelled. So no data on the actual menu description of these.

On the plus side, getting rebooked via JFK meant we were no longer in faux Delta One, so bedding was catered. It was the new Co-Z-Z-Z bedding, though, which I found far too thin and insubstantial; it would be much more at home in premium economy than business class, and I think it's a huge downgrade from the old Westin bedding. I hope they reconsider that offering moving forward. But I suppose it's better than the zero bedding we were provided for the outbound redeye!

Any news yet on when the SAD boxes are going away?

ATL-SCL, Jan. 2022, Delta One, A333

Antico Pizza dinner. The pizza was much better than what I was expecting. Thicker but crispy crust. I assumed the reheating process would produce a soggy crust, but that was not the case. The taste was more along the line of a margarita pizza vs. a pizza with spicier peppers as described (I did not taste or see any peppers).

Would have been better if the side was a larger side leaf salad. Instead, the sides were bread (the pizza already provided bread) and a goat cheese-based salad (pizza had a good amount of mozzarella; under the yellow beets and bit of greens was a large piece of goat cheese).

I enjoyed this and it seemed like a unique choice for a lighter D1 meal, which was what I wanted.

These look good!

Did your meatloaf taste like orange peels? The last chicken meatloaf I had on DL prob had half an orange's worth of shaved peel in the meat and that's ALL you tasted.

Despite some reports of new sad boxes, had the same dinner set on MSP-SFO last night: chicken salad sandwich, prosciutto sandwich, and ancient grain bowl. Also, TIL it's possible to get chocolate squares this small - shame!

I have a food question. I have a 9am flight on the 19th msp-mex in first. Its a breakfast flight. What might i expect? I know catering can and does change. Just wondering maybe in general.

Delta One LHR - JFK
Burrata Truffle Ravioli

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7a3eb55428.jpg

Surprisingly good!

The roll was ice cold and hard and I still wish they'd bring the ice cream later and not with the meal but it was also so frozen I guess it needed time to thaw!

Delta has programmed the avg pax to accept this new catering standard as amazing. Wake up people! The above pic is what is served in European short haul biz class. It's an insult to call this international business class catering.

I was told by a flight attendant that hot food is returning in February
