American has something like 800-900 flights a day out of Dallas, a huge amount that are meal flights and they can't figure it out either.

Again. Everyone wants to keep looking at pilots, that isn't remotely close to the only shortage in the industry. Fact of the matter is most people can make more money working at their local Target then they can working for the vendors airlines use, such as catering companies. More importantly they aren't worked nearly as hard as some of the airline vendors work their employees.
Till pay/benefits goes up and quality of life gets better these vendors will continue to have issues hiring people and more importantly keeping them, which is why some airlines have brought certain aspects of catering back in-house.

Pilots don't have an effect on meals. Everyone is focused on pilots, but for delays/cancellations.

As a lurking newbie here, I thought people were exaggerating with the sad box references, but that really is sad.

Best dinner in a long time

DTW-PDX, 06/09/22
One of the best domestic F meals I have ever had on DL. Braised beef and potatoes and salad were amazing. Better than Delta one food I had last month.

Braised beef

It looks to me like the pre-order only choices depend on the departure airport (but not the destination, at least for TATL flights).
